B\ufeffrad Arthur<\/a> has revealed star halfback Mitchell Moses<\/a> is "not guaranteed" to return from injury next weekend, which would likely see him miss the State of Origin<\/a> opener.<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old hasn't featured for the Parramatta Eels<\/a> since round three due to a broken foot and despite his best efforts, will not play in Magic Round this weekend.<\/p>\n

He isn't any certainty of lining up in the blue and gold in round 12 either.<\/p>\n

Moses, who played in Game III last year for NSW, is one of the leading candidates to play in the halves, but his lack of game time this year could derail his chances.<\/p>\n

Cronulla star Nicho Hynes<\/a> and Canterbury five-eighth Matt Burton<\/a> are at the forefront of discussions for the Blues after the untimely injury to Nathan Cleary<\/a>, while the likes of Jarome Luai and Luke Keary are also in the hunt for a spot.<\/p>\n

\ufeffSpeaking to The Sydney Morning Herald<\/a>, Arthur revealed the playmaker had returned to training, but wasn't at a point where he was considered for selection for the Eels.<\/p>\n

"He was always aiming for the Souths game next weekend, Magic Round would have been a bonus, but he wasn't ready this weekend," the head coach said.<\/p>\n

"We'll try for next week, but even then, he's not guaranteed to return.<\/p>\n

"We're trying, but he's not ready. He's out on the field and running, but he hasn't done anything with the team. He'll keep doing more each day, and we'll see what happens."<\/p>\n

Moses has added three Origin caps to his name since making his debut in the 2021 series, while both Hynes and Keary have only played one game for the Blues.<\/p>\n

Burton's only appearances for NSW have come in the centres, but his recent form with the Bulldogs and his combinations with Stephen Crichton could work in his favour. \ufeff<\/p>\n
