Ring Announcer Dan Hennessey has apologised for his "shitstorm of a performance" on the George Kambosos v Vasily Lomachenko undercard, when he declared the wrong winner in a WBA title fight.<\/a><\/p>\n

Before the Australian went down via 11th round TKO\ufeff to Vasily Lomachenko<\/a>, Hennessey, who was responsible for emceeing the event, found himself in a precarious spot.<\/p>\n

Following the ten-round slug-fest between WBA bantamweight champion Nina Hughes and Aussie challenger Cherneka Johnson, Hennessey announced to those in attendance and across the world that Hughes had retained her belt.<\/p>\n

As Hughes was raised by her team in jubilation, Hennessey called the fighters to the centre of the ring a second time, before reading out the scores again and awarding the contest to the Australian.<\/p>\n

The crowd erupted over the mistake, commentators labelled it an "epic mistake" as boos rained down, while Hughes stood dumbfounded over the sequence of events.<\/p>\n

Johnson broke down in tears in the arms of her trainer over the result as\ufeff her opponent declared she would appeal the decision after the fight.<\/p>\n

"The dirty side of the sport I love," she said following the fight while telling followers on social media that she was "gutted" by the mistake.<\/p>\n

Hennessey, who copped criticism online during the event and swiftly after the blunder, was contrite in addressing the mistake in the aftermath.<\/p>\n

"I own it. It's all on me. I take full responsibility for the Cherneka Johnson vs Nina Hughes controversy. Not the judges, not the sanctioned body. Me," he wrote on social media.<\/p>\n

"I have apologised to all involved, and now I apologise to you. I am sorry for what happened. Again, I own it and can only try to do better next time.<\/p>\n

"It was not my best day in the office. I guess all the shitty comments on socials I have coming. Again, I am crushed and sorry for my shitstorm of a performance. You all deserved better. Sorry again."<\/p>\n

Johnson said she was confident that she had won the fight and noted that the referee began to raise her hand during the initial announcement.<\/p>\n
