Jack Wighton<\/a> has confirmed he won't be coming out of State of Origin<\/a> retirement to answer a Blues<\/a> SOS.<\/p>\n

\ufeffWighton, 31, retired from representative football last year after being snubbed by New South Wales selectors for the Origin series, which the team lost 2-1.<\/p>\n

He had played 10 games previously and jumped between centre, bench and five-eighth for his state.<\/p>\n

He would have been an option for new coach Michael Maguire in several positions for the 2024 series opener on June 5, given injuries to Tom Trbojevic, Cameron Murray, and Nathan Cleary in the past fortnight, as well as an opening at No.6.<\/p>\n

\ufeffBut the Rabbitohs recruit on Tuesday hosed down any suggestion he would be representing NSW again.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI've been having chats with Madge (Maguire)," Wighton said.<\/p>\n

"I've been trying to put a focus on keeping my body \ufefftogether for Souths. \ufeffEveryone knows we're in a bit of a rut and the focus is on here.<\/p>\n

"There are plenty of young kids that do \ufeffthe Blues proud and do a great job there, so I'll stay retired and leave it those young fellas to fly the flag."<\/p>\n

Wighton worked with Maguire when the latter was an assistant coach at the Raiders in recent years.<\/p>\n

He confirmed the pair did have discussions following Maguire's appointment as Blues coach earlier this year.\ufeff<\/p>\n

But Wighton's arm was not twisted.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I made that c\ufeffall last year, then at the start of this year… me and Madge have a good relationship," he said.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffIt was a big call, but I've got nothing to prove… and I believe it's in safe hands with the young kids there, so that's the way I'm looking at it.<\/p>\n

"Madge has been around a long time and we have a good relationship, so he was understanding.<\/p>\n

"I love the Blues, I loved representing them when the time was there.\ufeff I know those young boys doing it now will kill it."<\/p>\n

South Sydney sits bottom of the NRL table with just one win from nine games.<\/p>\n
