A British boxer<\/a> has died after he lost on his professional debut in London.<\/p>\n

Sherif Lawal was knocked down by a blow to the head from Malam Varela in the fourth round of a scheduled six-round middleweight fight on Sunday at Harrow Leisure Centre.<\/p>\n

The referee waved it off to allow medical staff to attend to Lawal. He was taken to hospital but died. He was 29.<\/p>\n

Lawal began boxing in 2018 before making the decision to enter the professional arena earlier this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe British Boxing Board of Control sends their condolences to the family of Sherifdeen Lawal following his tragic passing after his boxing contest on Sunday,\u201d the board posted on X on Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201dThe thoughts of all those involved in boxing in Great Britain are with them at this difficult time."<\/p>\n

Speaking to media in March, Lawal's coach CJ Hussein expressed optimism about his future.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I think the pro game will suit Sherif down to a tee," his coach told the Camden News Journal on March 7.<\/p>\n

"He's got all the talent to become a great middleweight. He's a real inspiration to all the younger boxers at the gym."<\/p>\n

Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury said: "God rest his soul. You go in there, you're getting paid for danger.<\/p>\n
