Caroline Wilson<\/a> says that North Melbourne<\/a> coach Alastair Clarkson<\/a> is yet to undergo any education after his on-field homophobic slur in a pre-season match.<\/p>\n

\ufeffIt has left Wilson concerned with the AFL's lack of "swiftness" in moving to educate players and coaches who have been found guilty of similar incidents.<\/p>\n

It comes after Clarkson's behaviour against St Kilda players<\/a> in February, followed by Port Adelaide's Jeremy Finlayson admitting he used a slur<\/a> against an Essendon player in round four.<\/p>\n

And last week Gold Coast's Wil Powell admitted he also used a slur against a Brisbane player<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Clarkson was handed a suspended $20,000 fine, while Finlayson was banned for three games and Powell for five.\ufeff<\/p>\n

\"Finlayson\"<\/p>\n

Wilson is concerned that the league has failed to follow up on the education that each of the players and the coach are required to complete.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"The AFL probably didn't expect to be dealing with not one, not two, but three homophobic on-field slurs by early May already in season 2024," Wilson said on Nine's Footy Classified<\/em> on Monday night.<\/p>\n

"Given the seriousness of the punishments handed out the the players concerned and the outcry over North coach Alastair Clarkson, you would have expected the education element of the penalties to be as swift as they were thorough.<\/p>\n

\"Wil<\/p>\n

"But Clarkson is yet to undergo any form of education in this space."<\/p>\n

Wilson\ufeff says the Kangaroos have decided to make the education something their entire club can be involved in.<\/p>\n

"North say it will be an 'all of club approach' in June," she said.<\/p>\n

Meantime, Finlayson has reportedly completed one prescribed session, but Wilson fears it's not enough considering his suspension is already up and he's returned to the game.\ufeff<\/p>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

"Jeremy Finlayson has undergone one session, albeit deeply affecting, and only that (was) organised just days before Finlayson was due to play again\ufeff," Wilson said.<\/p>\n

"The AFL say they will try to find some more education for Finlayson in June.<\/p>\n

"We are yet to hear what's going to happen with Wil Powell's rehabilitation."<\/p>\n

Wilson is \ufeffanxious that the AFL is more concerned around how homophobia in their game looks, instead of actually working to help educate in a more broad manner.<\/p>\n

"All of the above begs a question. What is more important here, the optics or the education?\ufeff" she asked.<\/p>\n
