Star flanker Charlie Gamble had surgery on a nasty leg laceration as the Waratahs<\/a> casualty ward swelled to a ridiculous 17 players.<\/p>\n

\ufeffUnder pressure coach Darren Coleman revealed the extent of Gamble's injury after Saturday's 29-21 loss to the Brumbies<\/a> that left 2-9 NSW rooted to the bottom of the Super Rugby Pacific ladder.<\/a><\/p>\n

Gamble was helped off the field in the first half after his shin was sl\ufefficed open by Tamati Tua's sprigs.<\/p>\n

Remarkably, the Wallabies hopeful returned to the fray at Allianz Stadium before going to hospital after the match.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Charlie was bloody brave to come back on," Coleman said.<\/p>\n

"His leg gash is horrendous. He's off for surgery now."<\/p>\n

Prop Harry Johnson-Holmes is also out for the season after rupturing his Achilles tendon for the second time, incredibly leaving the Waratahs without all 10 of their contracted front rowers.<\/p>\n

\ufeffAdding to the crisis, Pone Fa'amausili's loan stint will end early with the Wallabies prop heading back to the Rebels to cover for Taniela Tupou's head knock.<\/p>\n

Argentina prop \ufeffEnrique Pieretto has joined on loan from the Glasgow Warriors and is likely to feature against the Force in Perth on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Wallabies front rowers Angus Bell and Dave Porecki \ufeff- the incumbent Test captain – are out for the season along with Rugby World Cup squad member Max Jorgensen.<\/p>\n

"You can't undersell the cohesion of the front row and the flow on effects it has there," Coleman said.<\/p>\n

"Nothing but respect for (replacement front rowers) Lewis Ponini and Jay Fonokalafi.<\/p>\n

"Three weeks ago those guys were on job sites. George (Thornton) we called in on Thursday and (hooker) Ben (Sugars) met his teammates for the first time this week. I've got respect for those blokes. I thought there were some good whole hearted individual performances pushed through the team."<\/p>\n

NSW Rugby boss Paul Doorn told the Sydney Morning Herald that there would be a review into the spate of serious injuries.\ufeff<\/a><\/p>\n

"The NSW Waratahs are devastated for all the players who have suffered significant injuries this season as we know how important and keen they were to contribute to our on field performance," Doorn said.<\/p>\n

"With any injury we review individually and extensively and seek to learn as a system. The broader program review will pay attention to the collective injury toll suffered this season and ensure we uncover any trends. The review will involve external expertise as is normal practice."<\/p>\n

With three games to go, the generous eight of 12 teams finals format means the Waratahs still have plenty to play for, sitting just five points off the playoff pace.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Ridiculously we're still in the hunt for the playoffs," Coleman said.<\/p>\n

"We'll go over to the Force and have good energy and intent and do our jersey proud, and try and finish on a positive with a few wins to get us home."<\/p>\n

Coleman is off contract at the end of the season and is unlikely to earn a new deal as Michael Cheika looms as a possible saviour.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Reds also confirmed some damaging injury news with No.8 Harry Wilson expected to be out for eight weeks.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Wilson broke his right arm in Friday's win over the Rebels and had surgery on Saturday.\ufeff<\/p>\n
