Rory McIlroy<\/a> has demolished the field at the Wells Fargo Championship<\/a> claiming a record fourth-\ufefftime victory on Monday morning (AEST).<\/p>\n

McIlroy becomes the first player to win the tournament four times, with players only previously recording two victories.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old entered the final round one shot behind Xander Schaufelle but made a fast comeback in the final round. A 6-under 65 saw the Irishman finish 17-under overall to take out the $5.45 million AUD prize pot.<\/p>\n

This is McIlroy's second straight PGA Tour<\/a> event victory after teaming up with Shane Lowry to claim the Zurich Classic title earlier this month in New Orleans.<\/p>\n

McIlroy has paved a confident path ahead of the PGA Championship next week. The course is the home of his last major win 10 years ago.<\/p>\n

"I really got some confidence," McIlroy said.<\/p>\n

"My golf swing feels a lot more comfortable than it has.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffSo going to a venue next week where I've won, it feels like the stars are aligning a little bit. I've got a lot of golf to play and a lot of great players to try to beat next week.<\/p>\n

"Going into the next major of the year feeling really good about myself."<\/p>\n

McIlroy went on an impressive run to steer clear of rival, Schauffele, who fell just short \ufeffof the world No.2.<\/p>\n

McIlroy birdied eight and nine before an eagle on the tenth. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Schauffele, who is currently ranked No.4 on the official world golf rankings, \ufefffailed to respond to McIlroy's run, carding a birdie on 10 followed by bogeys on 12 and 13.<\/p>\n

Despite finding the water on 18, the Irishman ended with a double bogey\ufeff to take home the crown.<\/p>\n

"I just went on a run, for whatever reason, I'm able to go on at this golf course… this is just another great day to add to the rest of them.<\/p>\n

"I feel like these people have watched me grow up. From winning here as a 20-year-old to \ufeffbeing at the ripe old age of 35 now," he said.<\/p>\n

"They've seen my progression throughout my career and I've been lucky enough to win here four times. The support that I get here is absolutely amazing."<\/p>\n

Australia's Jason Day<\/a> tied fourth with South Korea's Sungjae Im, recording a six-under after a closing 70.<\/p>\n
