The boxing<\/a> career of Australia's former heavyweight world champion Lucas Browne<\/a> looks to be over.<\/p>\n

The man giant dubbed Big Daddy was all but knocked into retirement on Sunday by up and coming Kiwi heavy hitter Hemi Ahio.<\/p>\n

Ahio took barely a minute to beat 45-year-old Browne on the Kambosos-Lomachenko undercard in Perth<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A brutal right hand dropped Browne to the canvas, but bizarrely the referee allowed the veteran to get up and keep fighting.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"A very bad opening minute for Lucas Browne," Ben Damon said on commentary for Main Event.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffLucas Browne is tough but the referee will have to do the right thing here… oh dear.<\/p>\n

"I think he should have stopped it right there."<\/p>\n

Browne kept fighting but the referee had to step in again barely 10 seconds later and end the bout.\ufeff<\/p>\n

\ufeffDamon suggested it will be the last we see of Browne in a boxing ring.<\/p>\n

"Let's hope that is the end of the road for Lucas 'Big Daddy' Browne," Damon said.<\/p>\n

"He has been a heavyweight world champion and he has been all over the world, but he found himself well and truly in the firing line here today."<\/p>\n

Browne formerly held the heavyweight world title after beating Ruslan Chagaev in 2015, but later had the belt stripped when he tested positive to clenbuterol.<\/p>\n

He was also the Australian and Commonwealth champion from 2012 to 2015.<\/p>\n

\ufeffIn April 2021 Browne suffered a devastating first-round knockout loss to rugby league legend Paul Gallen in Wollongong.<\/p>\n

After watching Sunday's fight, \ufeffAmerican boxing great Shawn Porter said the bout should never have happened.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffYou can have all the experience in the world, but when you don't have the punch resistance, the fundamentals and strength you used to have… this was only a matter of time," Porter said.<\/p>\n

"I joked when I said 'what is he doing in the ring?' – but when you're 45 years old\ufeff you've just got to find something else to do.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffIf you're 45 and you want to do this in front of your family and friends in the ring, make sure (promoters) match you with someone you can just move around with."<\/p>\n
