Kane Cornes<\/a> has labelled St Kilda<\/a> coach Ross Lyon<\/a> an "excuse machine", after he slammed the AFL's restrictions on runners and their ability to deliver on-field messages<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It comes after the Saints fell to their fourth loss in five weeks, going down to Hawthorn by five points<\/a> on Saturday afternoon in Tasmania.<\/p>\n

Lyon's Saints have slumped to a 3-6 record for the year, sitting in 14th on the ladder.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Now, Cornes has \ufeffcalled out Lyon's press conference antics once again.<\/p>\n

"I just think he's turned into an excuse machine\ufeff," he said on Nine's Sunday Footy Show.<\/em><\/p>\n

"Ater every loss I'm sitting there going, what excuse will Ross come up with? You kicked 53 points yesterday and the runners the was excuse, the inability to use the runners."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Cornes says this isn't the first time that \ufeffLyon has hidden behind other issues across the game, instead of facing up to their miserable 3-6 start to the season.<\/p>\n

Against Port Adelaide, Lyon mentioned the free kick count in their loss.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"10 (point loss), with a 25 to 10 free kic\ufeffk count," Lyon said post match.<\/p>\n

When they went down to the Western Bulldogs by 60-points, the Saints coach touched on their short turn around between rounds<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"We were a little bit worried coming here, the demands of the game … I don't want to use excuses, but I certainly came here and I was cautious. I flagged in the pre-game interview that it was our second four-day prep," Lyon said after the loss.<\/p>\n

"Is that what it is? Three in 11 days \u2026 but it's not an excuse. We've got to prove it's an aberration and that there were a lot of mitigating circumstances."<\/p>\n

It's also not the first time that Cornes has called out Lyon's antics.<\/p>\n

Cornes declared that Lyon's personality is continually helping to shield him from facing the truth about St Kilda's floundering start to the season.<\/p>\n

"Because he has a lot of friends in the media and because he's an intimidating or scary figure, he gets a really good run," Cornes said on Nine's Footy Classified<\/em> at the start of May.\ufeff<\/p>\n

But there's a simple way out for Lyon, according to Cornes.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"The problem for Ross is, he's got to describe what the game plan is and how they're going to score," Cornes said.<\/p>\n

"They average 73 points for the season,. Yesterday they took 117 marks and kicked seven goals.<\/p>\n

\"Lyon<\/p>\n

"The Saints weren't able to run over a bottom four side and get it done.<\/p>\n

"Just tell us how you're going to adjust your game plan to try and score and challenge the best sides.\ufeff"<\/p>\n
