The Waratahs<\/a> just cannot catch a break.<\/p>\n

Injuries continue to hit the hamstrung Super Rugby Pacific<\/a> club who languish at the bottom of the ladder with three rounds remaining.<\/p>\n

In their round 13 clash against the Brumbies, Harry Johnson-Holmes collapsed to the ground in agony and immediately clutched the back of his ankle after a tackle.<\/p>\n

The prop was forced to leave the field with assistance from Waratahs doctors.<\/p>\n

The frustration was visible to see. Johnson-Holmes swore loudly while head coach Darren Coleman rocked back in his chair with his hands on his head in despair.<\/p>\n

"You had better hope it's not his Achilles," said former Wallabies centre Morgan Turinui on Stan Sport's commentary.<\/p>\n

"That's a worry. Lower calf. Achilles. Fears of something grave. He is distraught. You've got to hope it's not a ruptured Achilles."<\/p>\n

Ex-Wallabies lock Justin Harrison added, "Darren Coleman is just thinking 'What is going on here?'<\/p>\n

"He's in real distress, isn't he?"<\/p>\n

It's yet another injury to add to the enormous stack of players sidelined.<\/p>\n

The Waratahs are up to 15 players who have had season-ending injuries to date.<\/p>\n

The Waratahs have lost all seven contracted props\ufeff, headlined by the absence of Angus Bell. Four first-choice hookers have also been casualties in the enormous injury toll.<\/p>\n

Speaking at half-time, Waratahs assistant coach Pauli Taumoepeau confirmed a suspected Achilles injury for Johnson-Holmes.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI don't know… it looks to be something to do with that Achilles and as you know he's just come back from that," he said. <\/p>\n

"I just went into the medical room and gave him a hug then. Obviously, I didn't get much from him but our thoughts are with him.<\/p>\n

"He's worked so hard to get here so it was a sad sight to see but hopefully the boys get up for him."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Despite the depleted stocks, the Waratahs put up a fight against the Brumbies in an enthralling contest punctuated by a downpour shortly after the second half began.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Charlie Cale scored first for the Brumbies in the ninth minute after reaching over the top of the breakdown, plonking the ball down under the goalposts.<\/p>\n

The Waratahs responded shortly thereafter through captain Jake Gordon, \ufeffwho caught the Brumbies defence napping and sprinted away to level the ledger.<\/p>\n

A penalty in the 32nd minute broke the stranglehold, giving the Brumbies a 10-7 lead into the break.<\/p>\n

\ufeffIt was utter bedlam in the second half as rain battered the Sydney Football Stadium.<\/p>\n

Rob Valetini forced his way over the line in the 42nd minute off the back of a ruck right on the try line. That was backed up by Len Ikitau's solo effort, angling for the try line.<\/p>\n

\ufeffJoey Walton put his soccer skills to use, kicking a loose ball along the ground and sprinting towards the try line for an epic solo try of his own in the 57th minute.<\/p>\n

Tane Edmed brought the home side to within one point in the 73rd minute after multiple attempts at the try line.<\/p>\n

However, the Brumbies put the final nail in the coffin right on the 77th minute when Sefo Kautai scored. \ufeff<\/p>\n

All told, the Brumbies were 29-21 winners at the Sydney Football Stadium.<\/p>\n

Three rounds remain in the Super Rugby Pacific regular season. The Brumbies face the Crusaders in Canberra while the Waratahs head to Perth to take on the Western Force in a battle of the wooden spooners.\ufeff<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
