F\ufefformer Fremantle<\/a> and Greater Western Sydney<\/a> player Cameron McCarthy has died at the age of 29.<\/p>\n

Western Australia police on Friday confirmed a death, with The Age and WA media reporting it was McCarthy.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"About 6:15pm yesterday, Thursday 9 May 2024, emergency services were called to an address in Lake Coogee," police said.<\/p>\n

"Upon arrival, it was confirmed a 29-year-old male was deceased.<\/p>\n

"The death is being treated as non-suspicious. A report will be prepared for the coroner."<\/p>\n

McCarthy was drafted with pick 14 in 2013 and played 21 games for the Giants in Sydney, but requested a trade home to \ufeffPerth due to homesickness.<\/p>\n

He was granted the trade and joined Fremantle at the end of 2016.<\/p>\n

\ufeffMcCarthy was the club's leading goal kicker in 2017 and played 49 games for the Dockers in total before being cut at the end of 2020.<\/p>\n

Midway through the 2020 season McCarthy collapsed at training, and was later diagnosed with epilepsy.<\/p>\n

"Cam is remembered as not just a prodigious football talent but as a popular, compassionate and caring person who had time for everyone at our club," South Fremantle said in a statement.<\/p>\n

"He will be dearly missed."<\/p>\n
