O\ufefflympic<\/a> gold medallist Gable Steveson is eyeing off a potential switch to the NFL<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old, who claimed gold in Tokyo in the 125kg freestyle wrestling event in dramatic fashion, was once seen as one of America's next big crossover athletes before a failed transition to pro wrestling ended with him being released by WWE<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Steveson appeared on track to become a breakout star on the level of Brock Lesnar or Ronda Rousey<\/a> in the wrestling world, but struggled to live up to the hype and was cut by the company last week.<\/p>\n

Now, according to a statement from his manager Dave Martin on The MMA Hour<\/em>, he could be taking his talents elsewhere.<\/p>\n

"Gable Steveson is very grateful for the opportunities he had with WWE and would like to thank everybody in the organisation who helped him get there," Martin said.<\/p>\n

"He would also like to thank all the fans who have supported him on his professional wrestling journey. Now, Gable is ready to resume competing against elite-level competition and looks forward to sharing big news with you all very soon."<\/p>\n

Martin also \ufeffclaimed that "multiple NFL teams have reached out" regarding Steveson and his interest in training prior to the 2024 season.<\/p>\n

While he is still eligible for NCAA competition, Steveson will not be in action at Paris 2024 and is instead training in mixed martial arts with former UFC champion Robbie Lawler as he weighs up his future.<\/p>\n

Prior to signing with WWE in 2021, Steveson went on the record to say the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens had reached out about him trialling for the NFL.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
