Former US Open champion Dominic Thiem<\/a> is reportedly set to retire from professional tennis at the end of the season.<\/p>\n

According to Austrian publication Salzburger Nachrichten, Thiem, 30, will play his last match at his home tournament at the Vienna Open in October.<\/p>\n

The former world No.3\ufeff has been dogged by injury the past few years and last week revealed his recent wrist injury has still not healed properly.<\/p>\n

"As I said in my last interview, I'm not the player of 2020 anymore," he wrote on Instagram.<\/p>\n

"I have to deal with the current situation, with the fact that my wrist doesn't give me the strength it used to.<\/p>\n

"I have to be honest with myself. The pain is a lot less compared to the last few weeks, but like I said, I haven't regained my full strength."<\/p>\n

Thiem,\ufeff twice a French Open finalist, also made the 2020 Australian Open final before claiming the US Open in front of an empty stadium the same year, which was heavily impacted by COVID.<\/p>\n

But the following year disaster struck with the star hampered by a knee issue, before the wrist problem ended his season and sidelined him for nine months.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Thiem has struggled since returning, clawing his way to a top ranking of 72 in 2023. He's currently ranked 117.<\/p>\n

The Austrian had an admirable record against game's biggest stars, \ufeffwinning five of seven in his career head-to-head record against Roger Federer, six of 16 against Rafael Nadal and five of 12 matches against Novak Djokovic.<\/p>\n
