Australian gymnastics<\/a> star Georgia Godwin has been ruled out of the Olympics<\/a> after suffering a "heartbreaking" Achilles injury in training.<\/p>\n

Godwin broke down in an emotional video revealing she has been denied the opportunity to compete in her second Olympics just under three months out from Paris. The 26-year-old finished 37th overall in the women's All-Around event in Tokyo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Godwin had been undergoing heavy training ahead of the Australian Gymnastics Championships, with competition commencing on Thursday, when she injured her Achilles.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"This is definitely not the news I want to be sharing with you all right now – a couple of days out from nationals, less than 80 days from Paris," Godwin said.<\/p>\n

"I've sustained an Achilles injury. \ufeffIt's extremely heartbreaking. It's not ideal. I'm looking forward to the next few steps.<\/p>\n

"I'll be heading back to Brisbane, having a chat with the surgeon. We'll just see where we go from there."<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe seven-time national champion was an integral part of Australia's women's artistic gymnastics team that secured a place in Paris and is one of five Aussie gymnasts to have a move named after her.<\/p>\n

Godwin announced the news on social media on Thursday, explaining that she doesn't know what a comeback might look like.<\/p>\n

"I'm not entirely sure what the recovery process looks like moving forward, but I've got an amazing team around me and trying to be as positive as possible. I'll need a bit of time to process everything," she said.<\/p>\n

"It's still very fresh and I'm a little lost but trying to keep it real and show all sides of sport. It's a long recovery, but I've got \ufeffamazing people around me, and I'm ready to tackle it all step by step… once I've been given the all clear to weight bear."<\/p>\n

Fellow Aussie gymnast Blake Rutherford, who was the highest-ranked men's trampoline gymnast \ufeffduring Olympic qualifying, also announced he will not be heading to Paris after he suffered a serious injury in training.<\/p>\n

Gymnastics Australia released a statement about the pair's "devastating" \ufeffexit from the Olympic team.<\/p>\n

"Gymnastics Australia is devastated for George and Blake, our staff are providing both athletes with the organisation's full support," the governing body wrote.<\/p>\n
