W\ufeffayne Bennett<\/a> has remained coy on his possible return to the Rabbitohs<\/a>, with the NRL's plans to bring in another expansion team throwing a curveball into the mix.<\/p>\n

The 74-year-old will leave the Dolphins<\/a> at the end of this season, but has expressed his desire to continue coaching in the NRL and Souths are in the box-seat to sign him.<\/p>\n

Bennett worked at the Bunnies for three seasons, taking the side to within two points of a premiership in 2021, before moving to Redcliffe and laying the groundwork for the competition's newest franchise.<\/p>\n

With his work now approaching a conclusion and Kristian Woolf set to take over next year, Bennett is in high-demand and was quizzed on his potential Redfern reunion in 2025 on Wednesday at his mid-week press conference.<\/p>\n

And in trademark Bennett fashion, he refused to give anything away.<\/p>\n

"Yeah, something like that," the coach said.<\/p>\n

"Who said it was the Magic Round? I said this week.<\/p>\n

"We'll get around to it. You'll find out sooner or later, so there's no need to worry."<\/p>\n

Bennett will reportedly be offered a three-year deal by the Rabbitohs in the coming days, with the club travelling up to Queensland next weekend as part of Magic Round.<\/p>\n

However, the potential inclusion of a new team in the league has piqued the interest of the seven-time premiership winner, who believes Perth should be among the leading candidates and left the door ajar to work with them in the future.<\/p>\n

"Don't wipe me out of anything," Bennett said.<\/p>\n

\"Wayne<\/p>\n

"Just let it all unfold and we'll see where it goes, and we will see whether the expansion team comes in and what year it comes in.<\/p>\n

"I have never spoken to Perth about doing anything with them, but I believe Perth should be one of the expansion teams. We will have 20 teams in the next decade.<\/p>\n

"We don't even know when the next expansion is coming. We know it is coming, but it's just when and where. We will worry about all of those things in the future."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
