D\ufeffisgraced former cricketer Michael Slater<\/a> has had his name rubbed off a sign at the oval named after him in Wagga Wagga.<\/p>\n

The 54-year-old was last month refused bail by a Sunshine Coast court as he faces 19 charges relating to domestic violence<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Among the charges are allegations of unlawful stalking or intimidation, breaking into a dwelling with intent at night, common assault, assault occasioning bodily harm and choking or suffocation.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Slater remains behind bars and is due to face court again on May 31.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday it was revealed his name has begun to be wiped around Wagga Wagga – the regional NSW city where Slater was born.<\/p>\n

Councillor Jenny McKinnon shared a photo of the sign at the oval with "Michael Slater" being drawn over or rubbed off, so only the word "Oval" remains.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I've urged Council to change the name of this oval as a matter of urgency," McKinnon wrote on Facebook.<\/p>\n

"Glad to see that someone (maybe Council?) has taken some stealth action."<\/p>\n

\ufeffMichael Slater Oval was unveiled in 2014 at the city's Bolton Park complex.<\/p>\n

The 74-Test batter did not attend the unveiling, instead being represented and spoken for by his father.<\/p>\n

Fellow Wagga products and Aussie cricket greats Mark Taylor and Geoff Lawson also have ovals named in their honour within the complex.\ufeff<\/p>\n

\ufeffAt a meeting last year councillor Dan Hayes called for the oval to be renamed following allegations against Slater.<\/p>\n

"I want to look at ways in which we could be replacing that name with someone more deserving," Hayes said in August.<\/p>\n

Slater made his Test debut for Australia during the 1993 Ashes.<\/p>\n

He amassed 5312 Test runs in 74 matches\ufeff and partnered Taylor at the top of the batting order for close to a decade.<\/p>\n
