F\ufefformer NSW Blues<\/a> captain Paul Gallen<\/a> has made two big calls on his potential side for Origin I, picking Zac Lomax on the wing and Nicho Hynes at five-eighth to partner Nathan Cleary.<\/p>\n

Lomax is yet to make his Blues debut while Hynes made his one and only appearance last year off the bench in game one.<\/p>\n

Both men have been two of the form players of the competition this season, with Hynes sitting equal first on the Dally M leaderboard while Lomax is sixth.<\/p>\n

Despite wanting to stay out of discussion around the Origin side on Nine's 100% Footy<\/em>, Blues icon Phil Gould<\/a> had one problem with Gallen's halves choice. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"Why would you go away from the Panthers duo?" he said\/<\/p>\n

"\ufeffWhy all of a sudden are we changing the halves? I just don't get it."<\/p>\n

Cleary's Panthers teammate Jarome Luai played at five-eighth for game one and two last year but was dropped in favour of Cody Walker for Origin III.<\/p>\n

Gallen replied he'd be "happy for him" if Luai was picked before throwing up another possible half.<\/p>\n

"The bloke I'm tipping who could be there, if Nicho's not there, \ufeffJarome Luai's not there, I'm tipping Jack Wighton," he said.<\/p>\n

"I've just got a feeling, Jack Wighton for me is the perfect \ufeffOrigin player. He's such a tough guy, such a leader … I know he retired (from Origin) last year, I get the feeling he may come out of retirement."<\/p>\n

Among Gallen's other selections are James Tedesco at fullback, Brian To'o on the other wing, with Stephen Crichton and Tom Trbojevic in the centres. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Despite \ufeffwanting to have Dylan Edwards in his side, Gallen couldn't find a way in for him, preferring Tedesco in the No.1.<\/p>\n

"I think he'll (Tedesco) be there, I'd love to pick Dylan Edwards, he's one of my favourite players," Gallen said.<\/p>\n

"I think he's such a good player and in any other era … Dylan Edwards would be a walk-in start but I just think (Tedesco has) been a good player for a long period of time, he's played well this year, he's their captain. I think he'll be there."<\/p>\n

With Michael Maguire<\/a> taking over the coaching reins from Brad Fittler, many have predicted a new era for the Blues.<\/p>\n

Gould, having previously predicted shock selections<\/a> on Wide World of Sports' Six Tackles with Gus<\/em> podcast, doubled down on those sentiments.<\/p>\n

"When the team is eventually announced, you're all going to be shocked," he said.<\/p>\n

"I think this is going to be a very unique sort of team.<\/p>\n

"This is a new set of eyes and a new way of selecting, I'm just saying what I think's going to happen.<\/p>\n
