K\ufeffane Cornes<\/a> has heaped praise on Port Adelaide<\/a> midfielder Jason Horne-Francis<\/a>, calling for the "mummy's boy" sledges to cease.<\/p>\n

The 20-year-old made the decision to move back home to South Australia after one year at North Melbourne<\/a>, the club he was drafted to with the No.1 pick in the 2021 AFL draft.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The move was met with criticism from some North Melbourne teammates at the time.<\/p>\n

Now in his second season in the teal, black and white, Horne-Francis is being utilised to the best of his ability, according to Cornes.<\/p>\n

The midfielder was "clutch" during the Power's 10-point win over St Kilda on Friday night.<\/p>\n

Horne-Francis collected 20 disposals for the game, but really shone when his captain Connor Rozee was put on ice with a hamstring injury.<\/p>\n

After half time, the young gun notched up 13 touches, four inside 50s and six score involvements to guide the Power to a gutsy win.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"We need to give \ufeffhim some credit, for what Horne-Francis did in the second half (against St Kilda)," Cornes said on Nine's Footy Classified<\/em> on Monday night.<\/p>\n

"How many times through his young career is he putting this team on his back?"<\/p>\n

\ufeffWhen asked why he was still so defensive of the young star, Cornes explained that North Melbourne are yet to replace the talented midfielder despite sending him immense criticism.<\/p>\n

"I just think he's been harshly dealt with\ufeff," Cornes said.<\/p>\n

"There was a lot of criticism from North fans\ufeff about him leaving and the 'mummy's boy' insults and all that.<\/p>\n

"If this is 'mummy's boy'\ufeff, I've never watched football before in my life, because he's a winner and he was a genuine winner on Friday night."<\/p>\n

Cornes, who played 300 games for the Power, has urged opposition fans, particularly North Melbourne, to give "credit" to Horne-Francis' improving game.<\/p>\n

"I think we need to start giving him some credit for what he does \ufeffin big moments.<\/p>\n

"He doesn't do it for four quarters , but he's a clutch performer and once again, he was the difference on Friday night."<\/p>\n

The Port Adelaide champion also noted that the Kangaroos haven't been able to find a winning midfielder since Horne-Francis' departure at the end of 2022.<\/p>\n

"North don't have a winner. There's not one player \ufeffon North's list where you go 'there is a winner out there'," Cornes said.<\/p>\n

"Maybe (George) Wardlaw. But he's touching the footy 16, 17 times a\ufeff game."<\/p>\n

Port Adelaide are 5-2 after round seven, while North Melbourne are 0-7.<\/p>\n
