Eddie McGuire<\/a> has revealed that "some" AFL club presidents are not keen on the league having 19 teams, with the former Collingwood president suggesting a "solution" to the issue would see one current franchise kicked out.<\/p>\n

\ufeffIt comes as a floundering North Melbourne<\/a> continue on their downward spiral, suffering another loss in round seven to take them to 0-7 in 2024.<\/p>\n

McGuire is now worried that North Melbourne could be kicked out of Tasmania to make way for "big" clubs to play there and build excitement until the Tasmania Devils are introduced in 2028.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"\ufeffNon-Victorian presidents and some Victorian presidents, don't want to have 19 teams," McGuire said on Nine's Eddie and Jimmy<\/em> podcast on Monday.<\/p>\n

"There's an easy solution for this. One will go.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

"I think the AFL should move North out of there, pay them the money and start bulking up \ufeffthose games in Tasmania and send some of the big clubs down once a year to get the Tasmania people lined up and excited (for their team in 2028).<\/p>\n

"They weren't excited by the weekend, I can promise you."\ufeff<\/p>\n

McGuire is fearful that the Roos fail to stand for anything, meaning that if the AFL wants to go back to 18 sides, they could be the one's to be erased.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"If you don't stand for something, you stand for nothing in this game," he said.<\/p>\n

"Big clubs fill the MCG, get the ratings, your expansion clubs get up there, get in the community, get them excited about football."<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, AFL legend Leigh Matthews pointed to North Melbourne's blatant lack of midfield depth as the main source of its dismal on-field results.<\/p>\n

Asked \ufeffat what point coach Alastair Clarkson needs to take the club in a different direction, Matthews highlighted the Kangaroos' young and inexperienced list.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffWell, who have you got to bring in? That's the point," he told Nine's Footy Furnace<\/em> on Sunday night.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffYou can always leave out an experienced player who is struggling but are you bringing in another 18-year-old?<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI don't think you're going to be any better if you just bring in the kids.<\/p>\n

"You've got to actually \ufeffpersevere with the Luke McDonald's and the players who have got a little bit of experience because we think they haven't got enough experience [but] they should be the last people we leave out".<\/p>\n

Skipper Luke McDonald headlines a list of senior players at Arden Street not up to the mark including Jy Simpkin, Aiden Corr, Cam Zurhaar and Luke Davies-Uniacke.<\/p>\n

Several experienced midfielders from across the competition are out of contract at the end of the season, however with the team's results, \ufeffit would be difficult for the club to attract those players.<\/p>\n

"[Those players] actually have to want to go," Geelong great Jimmy Bartel told Footy Furnace<\/em>.<\/p>\n
