Australian Olympic<\/a> high jumper\ufeff Brandon Starc<\/a> missed the national athletics<\/a> championships with a pelvic injury he describes as "tricky", but he doesn't think it will still be a problem when the Paris Games<\/a> roll around.<\/p>\n

The two-time Olympian hasn't competed since September but is set to return in Japan on Friday, ramping up his build as he prepares to "unleash" in France.<\/p>\n

"No, I don't think so," Starc said when asked if he was worried about the pelvic injury hampering his Paris Games campaign.<\/p>\n

"The rehab-prehab program that I underwent to get to this stage now \u2014 I'll continue that through. From how I'm feeling now I know that worked.<\/p>\n

"We're jumping in training now and I'm pulling up fine; no feelings at all, no symptoms.<\/p>\n

"So I'm pretty confident it's going \ufeffto be good."<\/p>\n

Starc will use a shorter run-up during the three competitions he's locked in: the Shizuoka International Athletics Meet on Friday, the What's Gravity Challenger in Doha on May 9 and the Golden Grand Prix in Tokyo on May 19.<\/p>\n

He was a notable absentee from April's national athletics championships in Adelaide, which he suspects he may have been ready for if they were held two weeks later.<\/p>\n

"Honestly, I wasn't too fazed about not doing it. The big goal is Paris. I don't want to rush it," Starc said.<\/p>\n

"It's been a tricky road back. I've had to be very patient.<\/p>\n

"Alex [coach Alex Stewart] has done a really good job in being patient and programming.<\/p>\n

"I'm confident to say we're past it. The pelvis is feeling great\ufeff.<\/p>\n

"Leading into these next couple of comps in Japan and Doha, I think we're looking very positive."<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old admits he'll no longer be competing come the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, leaving the Paris Games as his final opportunity to secure an elusive Olympic medal.<\/p>\n

At the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, he jumped 2.35 metres but finished fifth. A jump of that height would have won bronze at every other Olympic Games dating back to Barcelona 1992.<\/p>\n

"That fire, that drive, that missing medal," Starc said when asked what was pushing him.<\/p>\n

"That global medal is still not there, and time is running out.<\/p>\n

"LA [the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics] is not going to happen, probably. I'll be pretty old by then.<\/p>\n
