B\ufeffilly Walters<\/a> has put pen to paper on a new deal with the Broncos<\/a> – but the decision could see the club lose one of its brightest young stars.<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old son of head coach Kevin Walters<\/a> has been a consistent performer over the past year, locking down the No.9 jumper at Brisbane.<\/p>\n

Walters initially moved to Red Hill as a halfback with the potential to fill in as a utility, but has become the side's starting hooker and starred in their run to last year's grand final.<\/p>\n

In a statement released on Monday morning, the reliable dummy-half admitted there was never any hesitation when it came to signing a new two-year deal.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"I'm super stoked to stay \u2013 I didn't want to go anywhere else and the club was happy to keep me so it's a good result," Walters said.<\/p>\n

"I love playing here, the Broncos are the greatest club in the NRL and I'm just really grateful that they wanted to keep me around.<\/p>\n

"I'm really happy to stay here for another two years."<\/p>\n

His father and coach praised the resilience shown \ufeffby Billy throughout his career.<\/p>\n

"We as a club are proud of the way Billy has improved his footy since joining the Broncos \u2013 he has fought hard to get every bit of his NRL career," Walters said.<\/p>\n

"Some players get everything at their feet but Billy has had some injuries and some disappointment but he has stuck at it and worked really hard.<\/p>\n

"Now he's playing some good football for us and continuing to improve every week."<\/p>\n

The new contract for Walters will run through until the end of 2026, which could place pressure on the Broncos to retain young hooker Blake Mozer.<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe 19-year-old, who made his NRL debut at the end of last year, is one of the most highly-regarded young players in the game, but could now be forced to wait another two years at Brisbane to earn an opportunity as a starting player.<\/p>\n

Mozer comes off-contract at the end of the \ufeff2025, which means he will become available to rival clubs from November 1 this year and would attract plenty of interest should the Broncos fail to secure him long-term.<\/p>\n
