Darren Coleman's job at the Waratahs<\/a> is safe for now, but his place at the 2014 title-winning Super Rugby Pacific<\/a> team beyond this season is up in the air.<\/p>\n

Coleman was the subject of speculation at the start of the season amid rumours his place at the team would be decided by the end of March<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to The Sydney Morning Herald<\/a>, the Waratahs board told Coleman his future at the club will be decided after this year's Super Rugby Pacific season concludes.<\/p>\n

The Waratahs languish in 11th just ahead of the bottom-dwelling Western Force<\/a> with five weeks left in the round-robin.<\/p>\n

"The NSW Waratahs will make a decision regarding a possible extension of Darren Coleman's head coach contract at the end of the Super Rugby Season," Waratahs chief executive Paul Doorn told the SMH.<\/p>\n

"Darren is in his third year of his three-year contract. The head coach performance review process has been extensive and Darren now has an opportunity to respond to the feedback generated throughout the process."<\/p>\n

A standout win over the Crusaders in round two gave the Waratahs hope but a string of narrow losses has gnawed away at the team's morale and belief Coleman will be re-signed beyond 2024.<\/p>\n

The Waratahs have beaten the Crusaders twice this season, who sit level with the Sydney-based squad on 11 points.<\/p>\n

Despite being anchored to the bottom of the table, the Waratahs still stand a chance of making the finals. They trail the Highlanders in eighth by three points.<\/p>\n

In the meeting where Coleman was told he would stay until the season's end, the board gave him feedback that he could use for the remaining five rounds.<\/p>\n

"I'm looking at those things they've asked me to work on and obviously results are part of that as well," Coleman told the SMH.<\/p>\n

"It's important the team is performing to a certain level."<\/p>\n

Coleman said he appreciated Rugby Australia could have sacked him mid-season.<\/p>\n

The head coach acknowledged the season to date had been a stressful one but that he'd come out the other side better for it.<\/p>\n

"Sometimes you've got to have some rough times to figure out your way through them," he explained.<\/p>\n

"Although it is stressful and has been heart-aching with the results, I think every coach at some point goes through that and I've had a good run prior to the past year.<\/p>\n

"I've got to be mentally strong enough to improve and figure my way out of it."<\/p>\n

Waratahs assistant coaches Jason Gilmore, Chris Whitaker, and Pauli Taumoepeau are all off-contract too.<\/p>\n

The Waratahs, who are now owned and operated by Rugby Australia, face arguably two of the hardest tasks to date in the coming weeks.\u00a0<\/p>\n

They'll take on the table-topping Hurricanes in Wellington on May 3 before hosting the Brumbies in Sydney on May 11.<\/p>\n
