Tottenham<\/a> coach\ufeff Ange Postecoglou<\/a> did not attempt to hide his frustrations after Arsenal<\/a> kept up its push for the Premier League<\/a> title with a 3-2 win at Tottenham Stadium on Sunday night.<\/p>\n

The win saw Arsenal retain their position at the top of the Premier League table, narrowly holding onto the lead as Tottenham surged in a late comeback.<\/p>\n

The Australian manager expressed his concerns with the use of VAR during the game in his post-match press conference, claiming the on-field referees no longer have "authority" to make calls.<\/p>\n

"The games are not refereed in the stadium anymore," Postecoglou said.<\/p>\n

"They are refereed somewhere else and no one will convince me otherwise. It's not even re-refereed, it's refereed somewhere else. That's why I don't celebrate goals anymore. I wait for somebody down the road.<\/p>\n

"I just don't think referees in the stadium anymore have the authority they used to to make decisions. They just go, 'You know what, I'll just wait and see what the bloke down the road thinks'.<\/p>\n

"It's a shame, I don't like it but it's here to stay and I've got to accept it like everyone else."<\/p>\n

The comments came after Dutch international Micky van de Ven was denied a crucial goal in the first half, with VAR ruling that the centre back was offside. Tottenham's late fightback that threatened to erase Arsenal's earlier 3-0 advantage made that decision all the more galling for Postecoglou's side.<\/p>\n

The 3-2 loss ensures Spurs must win their next two games to have any chance of contending for a Champions League qualification, with the team currently behind fourth-placed Aston Villa – who are seven points clear but have played two extra games.<\/p>\n

"It was a disappointing day for us. It was a big game, a big game for the club, for our fans," the former Celtics coach said.<\/p>\n

"We didn't get the outcome we wanted so obviously it was very disappointing.<\/p>\n

"We wanted to win today for our supporters and for the club. We didn't do that.<\/p>\n

"From our perspective, we allowed them way too easy access to our goal. I think they made had four attempts on goal in the first half and they scored three.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"It's not acceptable at this level and we paid a price for it against a very good team.<\/p>\n

"We controlled the game for long periods for the most part but we know that. We know we're a team that can do that," Postecoglou continued.<\/p>\n

"It's about now over the course of time getting from where we are to where we want to get to. To do that we're still not absolutely laser focused on the details, the small things that get you from where we are to become a team that contends.<\/p>\n

"You can't give time and space to the opposition, you can't make decisions or lose focus at any given moment."<\/p>\n

Mikel Arteta's team raced to a 3-0 halftime lead but then had to resist a late fightback from Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.<\/p>\n

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg scored an own-goal in the 15th minute to put Arsenal ahead and Bukayo Saka doubled the visitors' lead in the 27th.<\/p>\n

Kai Havertz added a third in the 38th.<\/p>\n

With thoughts possibly turning to extending its goal difference advantage on second-place Manchester City<\/a>, Arsenal was suddenly left holding on for the win.<\/p>\n

Cristian Romero pulled a goal back for Tottenham after latching onto David Raya's weak kick.<\/p>\n

Then Declan Rice brought down Ben Davies in the box to hand Spurs a late penalty after a VAR review.<\/p>\n

Son Heung-min converted in the 87th to set up a tense finish.<\/p>\n
