West Coast Eagles<\/a> defender Tom Barrass has had his one-match ban upheld after losing his appeal at the AFL tribunal<\/a> on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Barrass was initially slapped with a one-match suspension for rough conduct after dangerously tackling Docker<\/a>'s forward Michael Walters during the last quarter of the Eagles' 37-point upset win in the western derby on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

Match review officer Michael Christian deemed Barrass' hit, which included a swinging motion, to be careless conduct with medium impact and high contact.<\/p>\n

Walters was uninjured in the tackle and played out the remainder of the match.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The Eagles were fighting for the charge's impact grading to be downgraded to low, which would have resulted in a fine for Barrass instead of a suspension.<\/p>\n

Attempting to argue the \ufeff'good bloke' clause, which saw Lions forward Charlie Cameron freed last week<\/a>, the Eagles referenced Barrass' fianc\u00e9 and two young kids, as well as his "few philanthropic interests".<\/p>\n

The Eagles' case also presented \ufeffcharacter references from teammate Jeremy McGovern and former Eagles chair Russell Gibbs.<\/p>\n

In his defence, Barrass said he repeatedly checked on Walters' welfare following the incident.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"We ran past each other on the ground and hi-fived and sort of touched each other [afterwards]," he said.<\/p>\n

"The second [interaction] was after the game shaking hands and he said, 'I'm good, you'll be fine, no worries'."<\/p>\n

The AFL's lawyer Adrian Anderson \ufeffargued while Walters' left arm was free in the tackle, it was not enough to prevent making forceful contact with the ground.<\/p>\n

He added that if Walters' right arm was free or less force was applied, the impact grading could have been downgraded with a different outcome for Barrass.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The tribunal deliberated Barrass' case for over an hour before reaching its verdict.<\/p>\n

As a result, Barrass will miss the Eagles' round-seven match against the Suns this Sunday.<\/p>\n

The tribunal's decision follows Tuesday night's charges in which Jesse Hogan was cleared of striking while Toby Greene's head-high contact appeal failed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
