Port Adelaide great Kane Cornes<\/a> has responded to Western Bulldogs<\/a> CEO Ameet Bains' criticism of the media's scrutiny of Luke Beveridge<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking ahead of the Bulldogs' \ufeff60-point win over the Saints<\/a> last Thursday, Bains came to Beveridge's defence, calling out the embattled coach's critics in the media.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffThe personalisation of some of it and the way it's directed at the coach at times is over the top," he told ABC Sport.<\/p>\n

"We feel like there's not much you can do about it other than perform and dispel it through wins and losses, and shift the focus elsewhere."<\/p>\n

Asked if there was pressure on Beveridge to keep his job, \ufeffBains dismissed the idea.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffNo, no. As I've said a couple of times, it's round five. He's contracted until the end of next year," he said.<\/p>\n

Criticism of the Bulldogs has become widespread this season due to the dismal start to their 2024 campaign.<\/p>\n

During last week's \ufeffepisode of Nine's Footy Classified<\/em><\/a> \u2014 and in the wake of the Bulldogs' shock loss to Essendon<\/a> \u2014 Cornes called on the club to seriously consider moving on from Beveridge.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the game, Beveridge made the surprising call to drop premiership defender Caleb Daniel before demoting running defender Bailey Dale to the starting substitute<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Beveridge's post-match press conference was also slammed<\/a> after pundits claimed the premiership coach was sending mixed messages to his playing group.<\/p>\n

Fox Footy commentator Brad Johnson, who also works part-time at Whitton Oval, conceded that Beveridge's messaging was contradictory.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffWhether the outside gets into Bevo a little bit, I think every now and then it does because of the way he talks within his press conferences and the way he answers and talks in riddles at different stages," he said ahead of the Dogs-Saints match.<\/p>\n

On Monday, Cornes said he was not sure if Bains' comments were directed at him or the industry as a whole, and confirmed that the Bulldogs had not reached out to him personally.<\/p>\n

Cornes \ufeffstood by his previous comments, stating his analysis was justified by the Dogs' string of poor performances.<\/p>\n

"If \ufeffquestioning their defensive actions, if questioning the number of goals they concede consecutively, if questioning bizarre selection decisions \u2014 if that's personal, come on," he told Footy Classified<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\"Luke<\/p>\n

"That is not personal criticism, that's professional criticism and that criticism stacks up.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffIt's amazing what happens when you play your best players in the positions that they should be playing in, and then you'll get the results."<\/p>\n

Leading AFL journalist \ufeffCaroline Wilson<\/a> announced she had received correspondence from the Western Bulldogs.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffIt was pointed out to me that he (Beveridge) has not been the only mouthpiece for the club," she said.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI take that criticism on board but I don't take the criticism that we were personal to the coach."<\/p>\n
