M\ufeffatthew Lloyd<\/a> has raised concerns surrounding Brisbane<\/a> coach Chris Fagan<\/a>'s chances of leading the Lions to an elusive premiership, after a horror 2-4 start to their season.<\/p>\n

Last year's grand finalists copped a 26-point loss at the hands of Geelong at the Gabba on Saturday night<\/a>, with Lloyd now expressing his distrust in Fagan's ability to lead his group into another September campaign.<\/p>\n

Lloyd even declared that if they can't win a flag in 2024, the current Brisbane squad will go down as one of the strongest non-premiership sides in modern history.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I just think with the talent they've got, we're going to look upon them as one of the most talented groups that wasted it and never won," Lloyd said on Nine's Footy Classified<\/em> on Monday night.<\/p>\n

"We may look at Chris Fagan and say 'was he right for them, for that period of time?'.<\/p>\n

\"Chris<\/p>\n

"He's been wonderful to set the club up, but I think, ask the question, is he … the right man to finish it off?"<\/p>\n

Lloyd says the Lions, who have made finals every year since 2019, were dominant last September, earning Fagan a newfound respect from oppositions clubs.<\/p>\n

However, after a miserable start to 2024, Lloyd says that respect has diminished.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"The finals series was amazing last year. But they've regressed again. They've regressed when they should have gone on with it," he said.<\/p>\n

"They don't look like a premiership team."<\/p>\n

The problem with Fagan, Lloyd believes, is his inability to make changes on the run or when injuries strike.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"\ufeffWhen Lachie Neale didn't play against Fremantle, their midfield gets smashed. When Oscar McInerney is out, they don't recover from losing their ruckman," he said.<\/p>\n

"I just don't think they can adjust on the run like other teams can."\ufeff<\/p>\n

\ufeffSince 2000, sides can average around seven losses throughout the home and away season to qualify for the top four.<\/p>\n

"You wanted to trust them. But you've got to be in the top four to win a premiership\ufeff," Lloyd said.<\/p>\n

However, the Lions have already clocked up four losses, meaning their chances are becoming slimmer by the week.<\/p>\n

"I think they're just about there (in finals contention), I just don't think they're going to make top four now," he continued.<\/p>\n

"That means they won't win it (the flag) again."<\/p>\n
