Caroline Wilson<\/a> has revealed the AFL's talent pathways will officially scrap skinfold testing, causing Kane Cornes<\/a> and Matthew Lloyd<\/a> to suggest it could do more harm than good for draftees.<\/p>\n

Wilson explained\ufeff that the league informed its clubs of the change over the last week, meaning players coming through pathways and the draft will not have their body fat measured.<\/p>\n

It's a decision that Lloyd and Cornes believe \ufeffcould be detrimental to players' toughness in the game.<\/p>\n

"Body composition assessments (excluding height and weight) will not be conducted in any talent pathways programs or on any athletes that are eligible to compete in the pathways programs," Wilson read of the note from Dr Kate Hall and Grant Williams.<\/p>\n

"Body weights will only be measured by qualified high performance\/sport scientists, sports dietitians, or medical practitioners, in a safe and private setting. All data collected must be kept private."<\/p>\n

The explanation, although straightforward, has caused some clubs to question the call, insistent that they don't use the skinfold testing to "body-shame" or bully any potential recruits.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"The end of skinfolds did raise the eyebrow of some clubs who think there are some reasons you do skinfolds other than body-shaming players about their weight," Wilson said on Nine's Footy Classified<\/em> on Monday night.<\/p>\n

Lloyd expressed disappointment \ufeffin the change that he was so used to in his career.<\/p>\n

"I think the world's gone mad," Lloyd said.<\/p>\n

"I've never known a player in my time that didn't take it for what it was.<\/p>\n

"You get your skinfolds done and you go, 'you know what, I'm at the level, I'm above the level'.<\/p>\n

Lloyd admitted he was "above" his target level at one point of his career, but it simply motivated him to work harder to get back to where he needed to be.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I was above the level for a period of time and it was a massive wake-up call, and you'll be training the next six Sundays."<\/p>\n

When show host Craig Hutchison explained that removing the skinfolds is better for the next generation's mental health as they become more self aware, Lloyd quashed the claim.<\/p>\n

"I reckon you'll struggle with the game anyway if you can't cope with that," Lloyd said.<\/p>\n

\ufeffCornes revealed his hesitation towards the change, fearful that if that information can't be faced or openly shared, it may hinder future players' careers and the further "challenges" they'll eventually face.<\/p>\n
