M\ufeffichael Maguire<\/a> has revealed there are no concerns over picking Joseph Suaalii<\/a> for NSW this year, despite the Roosters<\/a> star's impending code switch to rugby union.<\/p>\n

The 20-year-old will leave the NRL at the end of the season, signing a lucrative deal that will see him represent the Waratahs and Wallabies in the 15-man code.<\/p>\n

Suaalii is in the mix for a State of Origin<\/a> debut in 2024, but there has been some trepidation over picking a player who won't be around long-term for the Blues.<\/p>\n

However, according to the new coach, Suaalii's future in rugby league won't be a factor at the selection table ahead of the June 5 series opener.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"If he's the best performer, I'd have no hesitations picking him," Maguire told SEN. <\/p>\n

"He's put a lot into rugby league at the moment, and he's available and at the end of the day it's about winning for your state.<\/p>\n

"At the end of the day it's about living in the now and making the state proud.<\/p>\n

"It's a step up \u2026 it's looking at the players and understanding whether I believe they can make that step up, and that's being able to handle the big moments in games."<\/p>\n

Suaalii has crossed for 24 tries in 52 appearances for the Tricolours since bursting onto the scene as a teenager three years ago, with his efforts on the wing in club land tempting Maguire to select him for Origin.<\/p>\n

Maguire also believes Mitchell Moses<\/a> is still a chance of pulling on the blue jumper for NSW, despite the Eels halfback being sidelined with a foot injury.<\/p>\n

"If it was three weeks ago, I wouldn't have had Nathan [Cleary] or Mitchell. One thing I've learned is I'm not trying to pick a team now, I'm picking a team in weeks to come.<\/p>\n
