The Parramatta Eels<\/a> have copped heat from league legends Billy Slater<\/a> and Mark Geyer<\/a> following the side's \ufeff"alarming" performance against the Dolphins<\/a> on Friday night.<\/p>\n

Parramatta dominated the opening half of the match in Darwin but then "waved the white flag", according to Geyer as they were carved up by the Dolphins, who put on a nine-try onslaught in 30 minutes.<\/p>\n

Coach Brad Arthur<\/a> labelled Parramatta a "part-time footy side", accusing them of giving up against an under-strength Dolphins team.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Wide World of Sports The Billy Slater Podcast<\/em>, Slater declared that the Eels can not continue to refer to the absence of Mitchell Moses<\/a>, who has been sidelined since round three after undergoing surgery for a foot fracture, as an excuse for their poor performances.<\/p>\n

The Queensland Maroons<\/a> outlined the unfavourable comparison with the Penrith Panthers<\/a>, who have also played the past four games without their star halfback, Nathan Cleary<\/a> after he injured his hamstring against the Roosters<\/a> in round three.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffAbsolutely there are some issues because Nathan Cleary who is arguably the best player in the competition, he hasn't been at the Penrith Panthers for the best part of a month and they seem to be doing okay," Slater said.<\/p>\n

"There are certainly some issues at Parramatta and alarming issues…<\/p>\n

"When the heat really came on, pardon the pun because it was hot up there… But when you're in those conditions and you play football it just puts you under pressure quicker and they couldn't handle the pressure."<\/p>\n

Penrith legend Geyer said he could not find an excuse to defend the Eels performance, claiming he had "never seen a bigger capitulation from" a team in his lifetime.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffAt half time they were winning eight points to four. At 44 minutes they were winning ten points to four, then all of a sudden eight tries in 25 minutes were scored against them," Geyer said speaking on his Triple M Breakfast radio show.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI have never seen a bigger capitulation from a rugby league team in my life.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I could cut them some slack… It was 32 degrees when they kicked off and the humidity was around 90 per cent…but they were leading at halftime.<\/p>\n

"Maybe if they started the game fatigued then I would've said that the humidity played a part but something happened.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI don't know what's happened but in that second half they put the white flag up and I've never seen a team put the flag up like they did."<\/p>\n

Slater noted that the Dolphins took to the field without multiple key players including Thomas Flegler, Herbie Farnworth, Felise Kaufusi and Hamiso Taubai-Fidow<\/a>, who are all sidelined with injuries.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The Queensland great revealed he expects the team will be put under the blowtorch at training by coach Arthur following his brutal comments about his side during the post-match press conference<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"[Coach Brad Arthur] called them a part-time football team in his post-match press conference… He even referred to them having given up in the second half," he said.<\/p>\n

"I'm sure they are addressing it. Footy clubs are very honest these days and I'm sure they're looking at themselves with the same questions as we're looking at them with.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"Brad Arthur, he will be honest and he was honest to the public… and you can times that by ten for what he's going to be like in the meeting room because you won't miss him.<\/p>\n

"They played against a team that is in their second year in the competition. So they're still building their depth, the Dolphins.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffThey had no Flegler, no Farnworth, no Kaufusi, no Hammer (Tabuai-Fidow), they didn't even have their coach (Wayne Bennet) and [the Eels] crumbled to the pressure against that team.<\/p>\n

"The Dolphins had to get an NRL exemption to play a player who was outside the top 30, in Trai Fuller…. like that, it's alarming what is going on at Parramatta."<\/p>\n

Geyer said the Eels are in need of a "complete overhaul" in order to become contenders again.<\/p>\n

"Obviously all the comments now are going to say 'well is Brad Arthur's job safe?'," Geyer said.<\/p>\n

"He will be in the headlines, he will definitely be in the headlines.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffA lot of the questions around Brad Arthur are can he get any more out of this team?<\/p>\n

"I think the team just needs a complete overhaul. They need change at the moment and at the moment they have got it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"They are sitting in 14th place on the ladder with six points. They should be a lot higher than that.<\/p>\n
