A wild wreck on the last lap of the last lap of the Talladega 500 gifted Michael Jordan's race team its sixth NASCAR<\/a> Cup Series race win.<\/p>\n

Tyler Reddick claimed victory for 23XI Racing after chaos broke out coming to the finish line, leaving a trail of destruction behind him.<\/p>\n

Just a few hundred metres from the chequered flag, Ford driver Michael McDowell led the race and edged ahead with fellow Mustang pilot Brad Keselowski in tow.<\/p>\n

The race leader blocked Keselowski on approach to the start-finish line only to lose control of his car and spin out of control.<\/p>\n

Reddick slipped through the smallest gap as McDowell spun. As the Toyota driver crossed the line, chaos unfolded behind him.<\/p>\n

Corey Lajoie took the biggest hit, flipping onto his roof. Josh Berry was another driver who took a hard hit, rolling onto his side.<\/p>\n

Reddick celebrated his win with a burnout on the front stretch before joining his team in victory lane where he greeted the NBA legend.<\/p>\n

Jordan is a co-owner with NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin in the team, which was founded in 2020 as a one-car operation with Bubba Wallace carrying the iconic No.23 on his door.<\/p>\n

The team expanded in 2022 with Kurt Busch before Reddick went full-time with the team in the No.45 entry.<\/p>\n

"Denny (Hamlin) kept saying I was bad luck when I come to the track \u2014 and today we proved him wrong," said Jordan.<\/p>\n

"The team, the whole team, did a good job. I'm very happy to be here to see it. Everybody tells me, when we win we can have a good celebration. This is the first time I've been here.<\/p>\n

"To my wife and my kids and everybody, yeah, we did it! Sorry I left you at home."<\/p>\n

Jordan said NASCAR has given him an opportunity away from basketball to continue fulfilling his competitive mindset.<\/p>\n

"As you know, this is NBA playoffs right now. So this, to me, is like an NBA playoff game," said Jordan.<\/p>\n

"I am so ecstatic obviously for the fans that support the sport itself. We've been working hard trying to get ourselves up to where we can compete with all the top guys in this sport.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"We've done a heck of a job just to get where we are. For us to win and win again and win a big race like this, it means so much to me for the effort that the team has done.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I'm all in. I love it. It replaces a lot of the competitiveness that I had in basketball but this is even worse because I have no control.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"If I was playing basketball I'd have total control but I have no control so I live vicariously through the drivers and all the crew chiefs and everybody."<\/p>\n

Three-time Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen finished 28th in the race having briefly led the race.<\/p>\n

The Kiwi managed to avoid the melee at the end in what was his first speedway race in the NASCAR Cup Series.<\/p>\n

The Cup Series continues on April 29 at Dover Motor Speedway. Van Gisbergen's season resumes at the same circuit in the second-tier Xfinity \ufeffSeries on April 28 at 3.30am AEST.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
