A\ufeffustralia has failed to qualify a men's team in football<\/a> for the Olympic Games<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Olyroos<\/a> finished the under-23 Asian Cup – which doubles as Olympic qualifiers – with no wins and no goals scored.<\/p>\n

They failed to make it out of the group stage, a 0-0 draw against Qatar on Monday morning (AEST) the final nail in their coffin.<\/p>\n

It means Australia's hopes of a football medal in Paris will rest solely on the Matildas.<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe Olyroos were criticised for not selecting Adelaide United wonderkid Nestory Irankunda when the squad was announced last month.<\/p>\n

It was later revealed the decision was mostly down to \ufeffIrankunda's own wishes.<\/p>\n

Other young gun players were also made unavailable for selection by their powerful club sides, mostly based in Europe.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Australia headed into Monday's final group game needing to beat Qatar, and needing Indonesia to lose to Jordan.<\/p>\n

Neither happened – the Olyroos drew and Indonesia won 4-1.<\/p>\n

Qatar and Indonesia progress from the group, while the Olyroos are left to ponder what may have been.<\/p>\n
