While Verstappen&#x27;s Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez was third.<\/p>\n<p>The Ferrari pair of Charles Leclerc (fourth) and Carlos Sainz (fifth) rounded out the top five, holding off Mercedes driver George Russell and Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin in sixth and seventh, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the points finishers following on were Oscar Piastri of McLaren, Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes and Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg in tenth.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/F1\/status\/1781972423098736874?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"embed-social embed-twitter\">https:\/\/twitter.com\/F1\/status\/1781972423098736874?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Verstappen now has 110 points to lead the standings followed by Perez (85), Leclerc (76), Sainz (69) and Norris (58).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt felt amazing,\u201d Verstappen said afterwards. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll weekend we were incredibly quick and it was just enjoyable to drive. The car was basically on rails and I could do whatever I wanted to with it. Those kinds of weekends are amazing to feel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked if this was the most dominant victory of his career, Verstappen was in agreement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a good one, yeah,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The next race is the Miami GP on May 6 AEST. <\/p>\n<p>&quot;Completely different track,&quot; Verstappen said of claiming another victory. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDifferent tyres. Different tarmac. So you never know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The safety car came out twice in the middle of the race at the Shanghai International Circuit.<\/p>\n<p>The first was after Sauber&#x27;s Valtteri Bottas stalled at the edge of the track with a blown engine, and again with two nearly simultaneous incidents.<\/p>\n<p>In one, Kevin Magnussen clipped Yuki Tsunoda, and in the other, Lance Stroll ran into the back of <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/motorsport\/daniel-ricciardo\" title=\"Daniel Ricciardo\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Daniel Ricciardo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"662196af-6770-4b2e-a43d-8b9563af3011\" src=\"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/662196af-6770-4b2e-a43d-8b9563af3011\" alt=\"Lance Stroll rear-ends Daniel Ricciardo while behind the safety car at the Chinese Grand Prix.\" data-width=\"821\" data-height=\"462\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Verstappen&#x27;s rule in F1 also extended to Saturday when he took the inaugural sprint race of the season.<\/p>\n<p>Verstappen, after winning in Japan two weeks ago, was critical of running a sprint in China. He did not change his opinion on the matter \u2014 despite winning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sprint format was better,\u201d Verstappen said. &quot;But let\u2019s not overdo it as well. We are already doing 24 races, six of these sprint events as well. I get it. I guess it sells better and better numbers. But it\u2019s also more stress on the mechanics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe take it,\u201d Verstappen added. &quot;We have to deal with it. But that\u2019s not a thing now where we need 12 because it will take its toll on people as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This was the first F1 race in China since 2019 when the COVID-19 pandemic and China&#x27;s clampdown wiped out four races. <\/p>\n<p>Shanghai-born Zhou Guanyu finished 14th for Sauber in what could have been his last opportunity to race at home as teams prepare to shuffle their driver lineups for next season.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/F1\/status\/1781997197082440144?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"embed-social embed-twitter\">https:\/\/twitter.com\/F1\/status\/1781997197082440144?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw<\/a><\/p>\n<p>He squatted on the tarmac after the race and covered his face, the crowd thundering, \u201cGuanyu, Guanyu, Guanyu\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The real competition in F1 for the rest of the season appears to be for the half-dozen places behind Verstappen and Perez.
