R\ufeffoss Lyon<\/a> has explained the "mitigating circumstances" behind St Kilda<\/a>'s disappointing 60-point loss against the Western Bulldogs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The coach, who had publicly defended his rival Luke Beveridge during the week<\/a>, oversaw a 124-64 defeat at the hands of the Dogs, managing just nine goals at Marvel Stadium on Thursday night.<\/p>\n

The hosts fell short in every major stat against their opponents, headlined by the Saints having 65 less uncontested possessions than the Bulldogs.<\/p>\n

Speaking \ufeffto media post-game, Lyon admitted the AFL<\/a> scheduling has come back to haunt his side after a third match in 11 days.<\/p>\n

"I can explain it a little bit … I'd like to think that's not us," he said.<\/p>\n

"We were a little bit worried coming here, the demands of the game … I don't want to use excuses, but I certainly came here and I was cautious. I flagged in the pre-game interview that it was our second four-day prep.<\/p>\n

"Is that what it is? Three in 11 days \u2026 but it's not an excuse. We've got to prove it's an aberration and that there were a lot of mitigating circumstances.<\/p>\n

"If anyone can say that's typical of us, I'll defy them strongly and really fight to the last breath to say it's not true. I really feel for our fans and members."<\/p>\n

Lyon's team have managed just two wins from their opening six games and are languishing in 12th spot on the ladder, while the Dogs jumped to seventh with the win.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The 57-year-old would also pay credit to the Bulldogs for a dominant display.<\/p>\n

"I don't want to make excuses, because I want to give credit to the Bulldogs, but there was no angst after the game," Lyon said.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I didn't understand the noise about them. You get the analysis, they're one of six teams that sit (above average) attack and defence.<\/p>\n
