A major change to South Sydney's<\/a> coaching staff is reportedly on the cards, with the embattled Jason Demetriou\ufeff<\/a> set to bring in Canberra great David Furner, to shore up the club's defence.<\/p>\n

The Rabbitohs\ufeff are in discussions to recruit Furner in a bid to turn the club around, following their dismal 1-5 record to open the season, The Sydney Morning Herald<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n

It's understood the club is committed to providing Demetriou with extra resources to add more experience\ufeff to his assistant coaching ranks.<\/p>\n

At the end of last season, Souths officials advised Demetriou\ufeff to hire a senior assistant to make up for the losses of John Morris and Sam Burgess, however, he promoted NSW Cup coach Joe O'Callaghan to fill the void, despite recommending Furner.<\/p>\n

Club officials gave him their blessing to sign who he wanted, after they\ufeff persuaded Demetriou to take on Burgess as an assistant last year.<\/p>\n

Demetriou confirmed to the publication\ufeff that Furner will join him on the coaching staff, where he will help out with defence.<\/p>\n

"I'm close with David and I know he'll have a good impact on improving our defence," Demetriou said on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n

Souths has leaked the most points in the competition so far this year, giving an average of 32.6 points a game.\ufeff<\/p>\n
