Australian all-rounder Mitchell March<\/a> has returned home, wrapping up his stint in the Indian Premier League<\/a> with the Delhi Capitals, after tearing his right hamstring.<\/p>\n

Marsh's decision to \ufefftravel home comes ahead of the men's T20 World Cup<\/a> which begins in June \u2014 though his hamstring injury is not expected to rule him out of Australia<\/a>'s side at this stage. <\/p>\n

However, his premature departure has opened the door for fellow Aussie Jake Fraser-McGurk to make his mark in the world's top T20 competition. <\/p>\n

The young gun was \ufeffsnapped up for $92,000 by the Capitals in the 2024 IPL auction after being brought as a replacement player.<\/p>\n

Overnight, the Delhi Capitals confirmed that Marsh, in consultation with Cricket Australia medical staff, had flown back to Perth to enhance his recovery.<\/p>\n

Last month, \ufeffAustralia's coach Andrew McDonald hinted that Marsh was in the box seat to captain the country at the T20 World Cup<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Since Aaron Finch's retirement, Marsh has repeatedly served as interim captain of the short-form side, while Matthew Wade has also filled in the role at times.<\/p>\n

"I think all roads will lead to Mitch, so I've just got to get that ticked off in certain areas," McDonald said after Australia's Test series victory over New Zealand.<\/p>\n

"We're happy and comfortable with the way he's been able to operate with that T20 team.<\/p>\n

\"Mitch<\/p>\n

"We think he's the leader for the World Cup, and I think that will just be a matter of due course."<\/p>\n

In his IPL debut on Saturday, Fraser-McGurk smashed a half-century as Delhi defeated Lucknow by six wickets.<\/p>\n

With 55 runs from 35 balls, which include a hat-trick of sixes, Fraser-McGurk starred alongside team captain Rishabh Pan at the opposite end.<\/p>\n

"It's just a different cricket world over here. Never seen anything like it, heard a lot about it, it's just amazing," Fraser-McGurk said after his innings.<\/p>\n

"I've spent the last five, six games on the sidelines just watching it and itching to get out there. So just to get out there and have my first game, I'm stoked.<\/p>\n

"I tried not to swing too hard, not lose my shape and tried to find the middle of the bat. That's what I've been doing the last 12 months \u2013 why change it?"<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old is an outside chance to be named in the Aussies World Cup squad after making a name for himself during his ODI debut against the West Indies earlier this year.<\/p>\n

However, Australia is spoilt for choice when it comes to top-order batters with Marsh, David Warner, Travis Head, Cameron Green, Matt Short and Steve Smith all in the selection mix.<\/p>\n
