M\ufeffal Meninga<\/a>he had been approached by the South Sydney Rabbitohs<\/a> to be their next coach as a defiant Jason Demetriou maintained he would be leading the Bunnies next week.<\/p>\n

It came after Souths suffered a 34-22 loss<\/a> at the hands of Cronulla on Saturday night, with alarm bells well and truly ringing for Demetriou.<\/p>\n

The emotional coach was captured by cameras in the dressing room post-match with several players also looking distraught.<\/p>\n

But Demetriou said he's going nowhere, at least for the next week.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI would expect so (that I'll remain coach)," he said.<\/p>\n

\"Rabbitohs<\/p>\n

"Nobody has told me otherwise. We'll review the game, turn up, if not, we'll find out.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Kangaroos coach Meninga addressed the speculation.<\/p>\n

"I haven't had any conversations with the club at all, but for whatever reason I've seem to been attached to this," Meninga said on Fox League.<\/p>\n

Demetriou said it was "business as usual" despite sitting last on the NRL ladder with a 1-5 record.<\/p>\n

"We'll rest up and get some good training in the bye week," he said.<\/p>\n

"I won't walk around with my head down, I've got no reason to. I'm really proud that I get to represent these boys, our fans, our members, the staff. I'm excited about turning this around.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

Demetriou also addressed\ufeff his short press conference on Friday, as he walked out after answering four questions, lasting just 30 seconds in the hot seat<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"I said what I needed to say. It wasn't the shortest interview ever, I think Wayne's (Bennett) done the shortest," he said.<\/p>\n

"I understand why the noise is there, it's results driven\ufeff and we're not getting the results. We don't want to be going through this, reality is\ufeff, it's elite sport, we're a huge club.<\/p>\n

Demetriou said the bye couldn't have come at a better time.<\/p>\n
