2007 Masters<\/a> winner Zach Johnson was involved in a feisty incident with hecklers on day two of the 2024 edition<\/a>, as his horror round meant he missed the cut.<\/p>\n

\ufeffJohnson missed a putt on the 12th hole before tapping in for a triple-bogey.<\/p>\n

A loud cheer was then heard as the 48-year-old \ufeffcompleted the hole, before he yelled "f— off" to the hecklers.<\/p>\n

Johnson was 4-over at the time and scrambling to make the cut, with the 12th hole effectively ending his time.<\/p>\n

The American finished his second round at The Masters \ufeffwith a 3-over 75, taking him to 7-over across the two rounds.<\/p>\n

After the incident, Johnson suggested he was not swearing at hecklers.<\/p>\n

"That's laughable," he said.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffThat's completely laughable. I can't hear the patrons, number one. Number two, I just made a triple-bogey on the 12th hole that evidently is going to make me miss the cut, which at the time I knew was pretty sensitive in the sense that I needed to keep making pars.<\/p>\n

"If I've said anything, which I'm not going to deny, especially if it's on camera, one, I apologise, and two, it was fully directed towards myself entirely because I can't hear anything behind me."\ufeff<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe American has made himself somewhat of a villain after a controversial 2023 Ryder Cup campaign where he was Team USA captain.<\/p>\n

America had a huge loss in Rome and Johnson came under fire for the omissions of Keegan Bradley, Cameron Young and Lucas Glover in favour of Sam Burns, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth.<\/p>\n

Johnson also had a similar exchange with hecklers at the Phoenix Open in February, demanding they "just shut up".<\/p>\n

The 48-year-old wasn't the only former champion struggling at Augusta National, with Jon Rahm<\/a> going close to not making the cut after winning The Masters last year.<\/p>\n

The defending champion was 6-over and in danger of missing the weekend after a three-putt double-bogey at the par-4 14th. But during a rollercoaster finishing stretch, Rahm made a pair of birdies along with a three-putt bogey at No. 17 before a par at the tough final hole left him 5-over for the championship, and just one shot inside the cut line.<\/p>\n

The cut moved from plus-5 to plus-6 as the last groups finished amid brutal winds that had sent scores soaring. That brought a group of 11 into the weekend on the number, including former Masters champs Hideki Matsuyama and Adam Scott.<\/p>\n

Justin Thomas melted down for the second straight year and missed the cut by one. He went double-double-bogey-double over his last four holes, taking him from even-par and in the thick of the championship to 7 over and out of it entirely.<\/p>\n

Thomas wasn't alone among the major champions missing the cut, though.<\/p>\n

Reigning British Open winner Brian Harman had a disastrous eight holes to finish his first round, playing the stretch 11 over with two double-bogeys and a triple. The resulting 47 on the second nine at Augusta National, and a first-round 81, left the Georgia native needing far more than the second-round 72 that he produced to play the weekend.<\/p>\n

Jordan Spieth, Wyndham Clark, Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson, Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose also missed the cut.<\/p>\n
