World swimming authorities have slammed James Magnussen<\/a> for his involvement in the Enhanced Games, warning the star that "there is no coming back".\ufeff<\/p>\n

The three-time Olympic medallist \ufeffand dual world champion has been criticised by World Aquatics chief executive Brent Nowicki, describing Magnussen's involvement in the event as "short-sighted" and a "farce".<\/p>\n

Magnussen, who retired from professional swimming in 2019, is the first and only athlete to publicly announce interest in competing at the event, claiming he will "juice to the gills" to win the $1.5 million prize money for breaking the 50m freestyle record<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Nowicki stated that Magnussen \ufeffwould become an outlier in the sports world and would not be welcomed back into professional competition.<\/p>\n

"My honest opinion, if you are going to partake in that activity, you shouldn't be involved in the sport ever again," Nowicki said.<\/p>\n

"Once you have crossed that bridge, there is no coming back."<\/p>\n

The Enhanced Games is due to be staged sometime in 2025,\ufeff with organisers expecting greater interest from athletes following the completion of the Paris Olympics<\/a>.<\/p>\n

International officials at the SportAccord summit in Birmingham this week questioned the possibility of the Enhanced Games taking place, despite the organisation's extensive financial backing from venture capitalists, including Australian Aron D'Souza.<\/p>\n

A sports official at the summit said: "Who will line up in the pool to race Magnussen? You can't have a race of one."<\/p>\n

Nowicki labeled the concept of the event as irresponsible and \ufefflike "smoke and mirrors", expressing concerns about the future attitudes towards doping in professional sports.<\/p>\n

"Maybe there is a scientific purpose behind it (Enhance Games) or maybe there is not. You can find a lot of smoke and mirrors in this world. This is one of them. It takes us back years. It cuts against what we are trying to do," he said.<\/p>\n

"It's going to give or potentially give reason to somebody who's considering doping; who can say, look it's safe now, James did it. Or hey, maybe there is a way to do this with this new technology.<\/p>\n

"Look, they have their personal reasons, and he's entitled to his opinion and why he does things. I think it is extremely shortsighted to tell me that one of the priority reasons behind this is science and proving the effects of this."<\/p>\n

The \ufeffEnhanced Games took to social media on Tuesday to call for athletes to join the event line-up, with a $100k payment incentive to "star alongside" Magnussen.<\/p>\n

Thirty-two-year-old Magnussen revealed he believes over a quarter of his opponents at major championships were taking illegal drugs and his involvement in the event is to showcase that drug taking can be done safely.<\/p>\n

"Anything that I take will be FDA approved and prescribed by a doctor and has a given medical purpose and is already being used in the anti-ageing space, in the performance space, and other athletes have been using these things over the years," Magnussen told City A.M.<\/p>\n
