The manager of AFL<\/a> superstar Dustin Martin<\/a> has hosed down speculation his player is poised to retire.<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe notion was floated by former Port Adelaide player Kane Cornes in a column for The Age<\/a>, and he doubled down when speaking to both SEN radio and Nine's Footy Classified<\/em>.<\/p>\n

And on Monday, AFL journalist Tony Sheahan reignited the discussion on Wayne Carey<\/a>'s The Truth Hurts<\/em> podcast.<\/p>\n

He suggested Martin will limp to his 300-game milestone later this year – he's currently played 292 – and then hang up the boots.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"My understanding is that Dustin Martin is threatening to walk away, wants to finish on a high.<\/p>\n

"He's told friends and family he can't do it anymore. He wants to walk away.<\/p>\n

"He's fed up, can't dealt with it\ufeff."<\/p>\n

Martin's manager Ralph Carr immediately moved to quash the speculation around 32-year-old Martin\ufeff.<\/p>\n

Carr reportedly contacted Carey on Monday night to nip it in the bud, reaffirming his and Richmond's belief Martin will play on in 2025.<\/p>\n

Carr's stance was also reported by 9News Melbourne's chief footy reporter Tom Morris on Tuesday.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Martin has been arguably the most dominant player in the AFL in the past decade.<\/p>\n

He was judged best on ground in all three Tigers premiership wins in 2017, 2019, and 2020, and won the Brownlow Medal in 2017.<\/p>\n

\ufeffHis recent seasons have been hampered by injury and dips in form, while Richmond has fallen off the perch as a competition powerhouse.<\/p>\n

Martin was impressive in a seven-point loss to St Kilda in Gather Round, and Tigers coach Adem Yze backed his veteran post-game.<\/p>\n

"Having Dustin back in the side is a great thing for our team," Yze said.<\/p>\n

"We'll look at the balance of our team \u2026 but to have him available is great for our group."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Carey – arguably the game's greatest ever player – says Martin has earned the right to call time on his storied career whenever he chooses.<\/p>\n

"He has been an unbelievably good player, but if he was to finish up at the end of the year or go away or find another club or whatever it may be, then he has the right to do that. I think he's done enough in this game for us," Carey told The Truth Hurts<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"You're not in the sort of condition that Dusty is in and still playing the type of footy that he's playing \u2014 yes he's not grabbing games by the scruff of the neck like he used to and winning games, but he's still an unbelievably good player."<\/p>\n

Richmond next faces West Coast on Sunday.<\/p>\n
