Wallabies<\/a> captain Will Skelton<\/a> has been widely praised for his actions shielding an injured player in the European Rugby Champions Cup.<\/p>\n

Playing for La Rochelle, the second-rower spotted his opposite number Salmaan Moerat had been knocked unconscious after trying to tackle Skelton in the 59th minute.<\/p>\n

With the Stormers captain splayed out on his back, Skelton shrouded Moertat as players rushed towards him.<\/p>\n

The referee was quick enough to notice before players fell on Moerat, whistling for play to stop.<\/p>\n

Moerat managed to walk off the field for a head injury assessment (HIA) after play stopped.<\/p>\n

Skelton was widely praised on social media, with the rival Stormers players hailing his efforts.<\/p>\n

"Big Will Skelton showing what our sport is all about by protecting our captain Salmaan Moerat when he needed it most in our Champions Cup match on Saturday," the Stormers wrote on X.<\/p>\n

Skelton's La Rochelle went on to score a narrow 22-21 win over the Stormers in Cape Town.<\/p>\n

It was a come-from-behind win for the visitors, who were trailing 16-0 into the second half.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Stormers had a chance to win the game back after La Rochelle edged into the lead only for Manie Libbok to miss a potential game-winning kick.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Skelton's place in the Wallabies line-up is up in the air.\u00a0<\/p>\n
