G\ufeffeelong<\/a> general manager of footy Andrew Mackie has hinted that his club could be keen to enter talks with disgraced former North Melbourne<\/a> midfielder Tarryn Thomas<\/a> in the off season.<\/p>\n

On the eve of the 2024 season, the Kangaroos axed the troubled player after he was initially suspended by the league for 18 matches\ufeff<\/a> for alleged inappropriate behaviour.<\/p>\n

Thomas spent much of the 2023 season also bouncing from controversy to controversy.<\/p>\n

He was stood down in February of last year when allegations first emerged, and then again at the end of March.<\/p>\n

The midfielder returned to training with the VFL program in mid-April under directive from club specialists, before fresh allegations were released in January of this year.<\/p>\n

However, the Cats have suggested they would keep the door ajar for the troubled star, with Kane Cornes championing the possibility of the 23-year-old's return to the big time if he was to do it through Geelong.<\/p>\n

Mackie explained that the Cats will always look into players that have experienced "bumpy" careers, to see if they could be better fit at their club.<\/p>\n

"At times if you want to be in the market for players that are really talented and have that skill set, often if they become available to you, it means that something has been a little but bumpy for them along the way\ufeff," Mackie said on SEN Radio.<\/p>\n

The former Cat, who won three premierships in the hoops, connected Thomas' troubles to 2022 Geelong premiership forward Tyson Stengle<\/a>, who joined the Cats after a plethora of off-field issues at Adelaide.<\/p>\n

Stengle joined the Cats after being delisted by the Crows in 2021, going on to boot four goals in Geelong's 81-point grand final victory over Sydney in 2022.<\/p>\n

"The Stengle story is much known. We're an individual case-by-case basis," Mackie said.<\/p>\n

"We do a lot of work on a lot of players. We look at the positive and what their footy skill set can be to us, then we work backwards from there."<\/p>\n

Cornes is confident that Geelong has already been in touch with Thomas, who played 69 games for North Melbourne after debuting in 2019.<\/p>\n

"I'd be surprised if that phone call hasn't been made (from the Cats to Thomas)\ufeff," Cornes said on Nine's Footy Classified<\/em> on Monday night.<\/p>\n

"That connection to Geelong is the obvious one.<\/p>\n

"That's the obvious club and the only club I think could have success with him (Thomas)\ufeff."\ufeff<\/p>\n
