League great Billy Slater<\/a> believes the Rabbitohs<\/a> need a "shake-up" as Latrell Mitchell faces three matches on the sideline for his elbow to Shaun Johnson<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Rabbitohs fullback was put on report twice against the Warriors with another incident involving a dangerous tackle on Tohu Harris, however he avoided a charge for it.<\/p>\n

Mitchell's suspension comes at an intriguing time for the Rabbitohs with the side currently last on the ladder.<\/p>\n

Despite the dangerous nature of Mitchell's act towards Johnson, the superstar was able to stay on the field with Slater judging him as "very lucky" for two reasons. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"I think he's very lucky. He's very lucky that he only got three weeks on the sideline and he's very lucky that Shaun Johnson didn't break his jaw because he'd be missing half the season if he did," he said on Nine's Sunday Footy Show<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"He knew it straight away, this was pure frustration out of the way he's playing, the way his team's playing.<\/p>\n

"I think it's a great opportunity for both Latrell and the South Sydney Rabbitohs to reset their season.<\/p>\n

"Latrell needs to go away, and you'd like to think he's going to go away and work on the areas of his game that he sees are important, that make him play well and for the Rabbitohs, I think it's a great opportunity to throw a cat amongst the pigeons and change some spots. Get Jack Wighton in a little bit closer, maybe play him at six, maybe Cody Walker, throw him on the other side of the field and put the seven on his back. I think there can be some real changes for South Sydney this week."<\/p>\n

NRL Immortal Andrew Johns agreed there was a chance Johnson's jaw could've been broken before adding: "In years gone by … that's a send-off so he's lucky to get away with it."<\/p>\n

Mitchell is likely to be replaced by youngster Jye Gray who has impressed in the NSW Cup with Johns suggesting it could lead to a positional switch for Mitchell.<\/p>\n

"I'd say he'll go into fullback but then the discussion has to be does Latrell go back to centre when he comes back from his suspension," he said.<\/p>\n

"The way he's playing at the moment I think (he should go to centre). A lot depends on Jye Gray, how he goes, but the way he's carving up, he's quick, only built close to the ground but he's tough too."<\/p>\n

Despite the Rabbitohs only beating the Bulldogs so far in 2024, Slater believes there's still a chance they could changes their fortunes this season.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"It's not too late, we're only five games into the season, they \ufeffcan turn it around but I think there needs to be a shake-up at the club because they've tried a few things," he said.<\/p>\n

"They only just beat the Bulldogs … they have the worst points against them in the competition, even worse than the Titans so there needs to be something happen there."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
