The Sea Eagles<\/a>' supreme 32-18 win over the Panthers<\/a> at Brookvale Oval has been overshadowed by controversy after a contentious try was \ufeffgranted.<\/p>\n

Toluta'u Koula sprinted away to score in the 34th minute after his Manly teammate Tommy Talau appeared to have knocked the ball on while trying to intercept a Dylan Edwards pass.<\/p>\n

Talau immediately showed an expression of guilt as Koula scooped up the ball up and charged 90 metres downfield unchallenged to score.<\/p>\n

Despite the error in the lead-up to the try, referee Todd Smith awarded it and the Bunker confirmed it with league great Corey Parker believing the knock-on was ignored.<\/p>\n

"That's a knock on, I don't understand how Todd Smith has let that play on," he told Fox League. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"The evidence is on the face of Tom Talau."<\/p>\n

"There's a lesson [here], play to the whistle," fellow commentator Dan Ginnane added.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"High drama at Brookvale… of course it's a knock on, a contentious knockdown pass."<\/p>\n

Parker later added: "That's outrageous".\ufeff<\/p>\n

"We see it every day, the minute that ball goes down they say knock on, this time it goes upstairs, Todd Smith gives it a try… and they come up with a try."<\/p>\n

Speaking post-match, \ufeffPanthers coach Ivan Cleary<\/a> acknowledged that Talau's knock-on was clearly missed but refused to use the instance as an excuse for his side's "poor" showing.<\/p>\n

"It was one of about five or six intercepts we threw, so it was bad play by us in the first place," he told media.<\/p>\n

"I mean, yeah, everybody in the stadium knew it was a knock-on but that's poor play by us in the first place."<\/p>\n

Panthers skipper Isaah Yeo added: "I guess the feeling was that we thought it was a knock-on, but like Ivan touched on, even just that reaction off the back of that too".<\/p>\n

"They scored a try [which is] obviously disappointing, but yeah, after that there was just no control from us."<\/p>\n

In his record-breaking 310th match for Manly, Daly Cherry-Evans<\/a> subsequently slotted the conversion as play continued.<\/p>\n

The man of the moment finished the match with five \ufeffconversions, a penalty goal, two try assists and a stirring second-half try.<\/p>\n

"It's only fitting that Daly Cherry-Evans is over for the Sea Eagles," Parker said for Fox League.<\/p>\n

A 25th-minute try to \ufeffTom Trbojevic helped the hosts to a 14-6 lead over the Panthers at the half-time break.<\/p>\n

Inside the opening three minutes, Manly winger R\ufeffeuben Garrick was subbed out of the match after being concussed when he collided with teammate Jaxson Paulo's shoulder in a tackle.<\/p>\n

Panthers prop Liam Henry was also rubbed out in the 32nd minute following a heavy collision in an attempt to bring down Nathan Brown.<\/p>\n

Halfback Brad Schneider opened the scoring after being set up by Edwards with a pin-point pass.<\/p>\n

Edwards was in next for Penrith and \ufeffscored the visitors' remaining two tries to record a second-half double.<\/p>\n
