RB<\/a> has confirmed Daniel Ricciardo<\/a> will receive a new chassis for the Chinese Grand Prix later this month.<\/p>\n

The Australian has had a lacklustre start to the Formula 1 season and has yet to record a points-scoring finish.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix, Ricciardo declared he needed a new chassis before deciding whether it is him or the car that is slow.<\/p>\n

Asked if a chassis swap had been considered, Ricciardo said: "There has.\u00a0I certainly addressed that (with the team) just again to make sure. There has been, in the past, a bit of a difference (between chassis).<\/p>\n

"I've driven F1 a long time now, but you can find some differences, so that was certainly something I raised the possibility if we still are struggling before we just tell me I'm shit, please get that sorted."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Ricciardo said he has been struggling in high-speed areas in Australia and Saudi Arabia relative to teammate Yuki Tsunoda, who has the team's sole point-scoring finish.<\/p>\n

On Friday, RB racing director Alan Permane confirmed a new chassis was being built, albeit not with the express intention to prove Ricciardo right or wrong.<\/p>\n

"For me, the chassis is a big lump of carbon that we attach the suspension to, attach an engine to, and a gearbox to," said Permane.<\/p>\n

"It's really ever so unlikely that there are performance issues with the chassis.<\/p>\n

"However, we have a new one coming through, it makes sense at all levels to give that to Daniel, not least that Yuki is super happy and super comfortable where he is.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"We don't have a preference on drivers. With Daniel maybe it's good for him to just put that completely to bed, that there any there any issues with the car."<\/p>\n

Although Ricciardo believes there may be something inherently wrong with his chassis, Permane isn't so sure.<\/p>\n

"Sometimes you can measure things, you can put chassis on rigs and check stiffnesses and things like that," he said. "The reason I say it's ever so unlikely is because it really is not a performance differentiator.<\/p>\n

"A survival cell is what it's known as in the regulations, it's there to mount the front suspension off, to mount the engine off, and to keep the driver safe.<\/p>\n

"So I don't see it as being a performance differentiator, and it's certainly not something we want to be hopping drivers in and out of. It's a happy accident that we have one coming, and it doesn't make sense to give it to Yuki.<\/p>\n

"It makes sense to give it to Daniel, but we're not bringing a new chassis because of his issues, to be clear about that. It is just that it all kind of fits together."<\/p>\n

Ricciardo missed the first hit-out at the Suzuka Circuit with Ayumu Iwasa fulfilling part of RB's requirement to field a young driver in practice.<\/p>\n
