St George Illawarra Dragons<\/a> captain Ben Hunt<\/a> appears to have backflipped on his initial request to explore trade options and now looks to stay with his current club beyond 2025.<\/p>\n

\ufeffLast season, the 34-year-old was keen to explore a move elsewhere after the Dragons axed coach Anthony Griffin.<\/p>\n

Hunt had expressed a desire to return home to Queensland to see out his NRL career.\ufeff<\/p>\n

New coach Shane Flanagan, who stood firm that he would not release Hunt, appears to have convinced him to stay at the club beyond his contractual obligations.<\/p>\n

There are reports that the Dragons have begun casual discussions surrounding Hunt's future beyond 2025, when his current contract ends.\ufeff<\/p>\n

There are suggestions he could sign a new deal with the Dragons, who he has played nearly 200 games with, that would carry him through to the 2026 season.\ufeff<\/p>\n

In 2026, Hunt will turn 36.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Flanagan addressed the media on Thursday, indicating that Hunt "wanted" to stay at the Dragons.<\/p>\n

"Ben wants to be here," Flanagan said.<\/p>\n

"Ben will see out his contract and maybe go further."<\/p>\n
