D\ufeffespite their best efforts to lure triple premiership Tiger Dustin Martin<\/a> up north to follow former Richmond<\/a> coach Damien Hardwick<\/a>, the Gold Coast Suns<\/a> have conceded he'll likely hang up the boots in the yellow and black.<\/p>\n

The 33-year-old Richmond champion is out of contract at the end of 2024, with his nine-year mega deal finally coming to a close<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After enticing Hardwick to the Suns on a monster five-year deal just months after he cited a "burnout" at Tigerland<\/a> in mid-2023, Gold Coast footy boss Wayne Campbell explained how his club held out hope to also collect Martin as a package deal.<\/p>\n

With rumours swirling around Martin's future down in Melbourne, the Suns looked likely to attempt to pounce come 2024, with Hardwick even suggesting the club would enter talks with the Tigers champion if the timing was right<\/a>.<\/p>\n

However,\ufeff eight months on from those suggestions, the Suns have acknowledged it's unlikely they'll land Martin in 2025.<\/p>\n

\"Dustin<\/p>\n

"I don't know (if we'll target Martin as a free agent), there's too much to play out," Campbell told SEN Radio on Thursday.<\/p>\n

"Dustin's an absolute Richmond legend and he's contracted to them.<\/p>\n

"We'll keep an eye on it, but I would have thought he probably sees his days out at the Tigers."<\/p>\n

Campbell did admit the club believed they had a chance to land the star midfielder at the Suns, after a brief catch up in 2023.\ufeff<\/p>\n

\"Dustin<\/p>\n

"We were photographed on the Gold Coast last year and it was a big deal," he said.<\/p>\n

However, Campbell expected Martin to meet up with his former coach when he travelled up to the Gold Coast\ufeff, explaining that their meeting was not out of the ordinary considering their extensive past.<\/p>\n

"But I almost thought at the time it'd be a bigger deal if Dustin came up and he didn't catch up with Damien, given the relationship they've got," Campbell said.<\/p>\n

"That was just over a beer."<\/p>\n

\"Dustin<\/p>\n

As the Suns look ahead to their 2024 campaign and their push for a maiden finals appearance come September, Campbell declared he is always looking beyond \ufeffthe now.<\/p>\n

"We're always in the market for good players," Campbell said.<\/p>\n

"We got ourselves into some strife a few years ago (salary cap issues), but Craig Cameron (Suns list manager) has done a terrific job of getting the books back in order.<\/p>\n

"We've had some players go out, which has been well documented and that's allowed us to get into a position where if there was someone on the market and they were a good player, that we could add to our list and felt that they would benefit us that we would certainly have a look at that."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Gold Coast, who already have two wins under the belt after three rounds, will take on fellow expansion club GWS as part of the AFL's Gather Round fixture in Adelaide on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n
