A\ufeffDELAIDE:<\/strong> Former boxing world champion Danny Green has applauded the bravery of the AFL greats stepping outside their comfort zone<\/a> and into the ring on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

Dane Swan, Kane Cornes, Nathan Brown, Dale Thomas, Anthony Rocca, \ufeffCorey McKernan, Mitch Robinson and Kayne Pettifer\u200b will all throw hands at The Gathering<\/em> as part of a huge card<\/a> that culminates with the Jackson England vs Jamel Herring world title fight.<\/p>\n

"If you threw us boxers onto the football field, we wouldn't get a kick," Green told Wide World of Sports in Adelaide.<\/p>\n

"So I've got huge respect for these mad dogs exposing themselves in the ring. I love my AFL and back in the day, nothing would set the crowd alight more than a punch on. Now they get to see them do it for real. Why wouldn't you want to watch it?<\/p>\n

"These boys have paid great respect to the sport of boxing.<\/p>\n

"They have got themselves in great physical condition. They're not saying they're going to be world champions or even great fighters. But they are going to put on a show and I applaud them."\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Nathan Brown has put in a lot of work but I think Kane Cornes might be the most competitive bloke on this whole card," Green said.<\/p>\n

"Cornes is a character and he says it how it is. He doesn't pull any punches. He doesn't apologise for what he says. He says what he feels. He's not offending anyone. People disagree with his point of view, but he's not afraid to say it which I respect.<\/p>\n

"We need characters in sport. I miss the \ufeffWarwick Cappers and the Mark Jacksons. They get people watching the games."<\/p>\n

Mitch Robinson vs Kayne Pettifer<\/strong><\/p>\n

"I think this w\ufeffill be the best AFL fight," Green said.<\/p>\n

"With respect to the others, \ufeffthey'll have the highest level of boxing skill. Pettifer's had a few fights before and Mitch has been training for a while. He's young, fit and hungry and says he wants to fight again.<\/p>\n

"Expect some fireworks in this one."<\/p>\n

Dane Swan vs Dale Thomas<\/strong><\/p>\n

"I don't \ufefflike Collingwood but how could you hate Dane Swan? He's just a lovable bloke." Green said.<\/p>\n

"He's another great character. These boys are fit as but I think they're going to be gassed in this arena. Their first fight – they're going to be so overwhelmed with nerves and adrenaline.<\/p>\n

"That's what will decide it – we'll see who can control the nerves."<\/p>\n

Anthony Rocca vs Corey McKernan<\/strong><\/p>\n

"Boxing is synonymous with heavyweights," Green said.<\/p>\n

"Everyone loves their heavyweights. The big boys, they throw the heavy leather. I'm not a big fan of Collingwood so I'm going for the big guy, Corey.<\/p>\n

"Speaking to him before, he's very cool, calm and prepared. He's the consumate professional."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Jackson England (15-4) vs Jamel Herring (24-4), WBO global super featherweight title<\/strong><\/p>\n

"This is a really big fight for Australian boxing and for boxing worldwide," Green said.<\/p>\n

"Jamel is a former world champion and a very experienced guy who's fought some big names. Jackson is a good Perth boy, this kid's the real deal as well.<\/p>\n

"He's been in candidates for fight of the year a couple of times and I don't think this one is going to be any different.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

"In Duk Seo from Korea is a puncher, he's a banger and a very experienced guy too," Green said.<\/p>\n

"He's been a tiger of the sport and he's never in a boring fight."<\/p>\n

"So it's a really exciting fight and I'm looking forward to this one."<\/p>\n

"Alex Jr comes from great pedigree. His father, Alex Sr, is a boxing legend in this country," Green said.<\/p>\n

"He's got a big task ahead of him with big Joe from New Zealand.<\/p>\n

"It's his professional debut and it's very exciting for the young fella.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

"I've been in the ring with Wes a couple of times sparring and he's given me a bit of lick on each occasion," Green said.<\/p>\n

"So Sergei is going to be in for a tough fight.<\/p>\n
