Hawthorn<\/a> will consider approaching the AFL<\/a> over the umpiring of star forward Jack Ginnivan<\/a>, as he prepares to face his former club in Gather Round.<\/p>\n

The decision to not award Ginnivan a number of free kicks during Monday's clash with Geelong<\/a> became a hot topic after the game.<\/p>\n

The 21-year-old has a habit of lowering his body height to force a tackler's arm higher, often causing contact with Ginnivan's neck or head and forcing the umpires into deciding if it's worthy of a free kick.<\/p>\n

Geelong champion Joel Selwood came under fire for using the same ducking tactic during his storied career.<\/p>\n

\ufeffCollingwood legend Tony Shaw suggested on 3AW radio the Hawks should seek a please explain from head office over the way Ginnivan is officiated.<\/p>\n

As of Monday night, coach Sam Mitchell was still unsure if that would happen.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI think the AFL has a process now where we can go to the league and say if we think it's unfair treatment," Mitchell told Nine's Footy Classified<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"I think we have to have a look at it\ufeff. If you raise the arm the umpires are pretty aware of that one.<\/p>\n

"But I'll take a look at those throughout the week \ufeffand will take it to the AFL if we think there is an issue.<\/p>\n

"I say to the players regularly \ufeffif you play for (free kicks) you don't deserve them.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffOnce you become that, then you need to never whinge to the umpire again and you need to just play the right way, and you'll get the free kicks you deserve in time."<\/p>\n

Ginnivan will be in the spotlight on Sunday afternoon when he goes up against the team he won a premiership with last year.<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe young forward left Collingwood in controversy, receiving a public clip from coach Craig McRae for attending a horse race meeting the night before the AFL grand final.<\/p>\n

Former Magpies teammate Mason Cox is unsure if Ginnivan's ducking tactics will be evident during the game.<\/p>\n

"I'll be so interested to see if Collingwood fans boo him if he does duck," Cox said on Nova 100's Jase & Lauren<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"I think the umpires are definitely aware of it. If you were to look statistically at the decisions that are made against him compared to others, it would probably be a bit different.<\/p>\n
