St George Illawarra Dragons<\/a> coach Shane Flanagan<\/a> has declared he'd have to receive a \ufeff"very, very, very good" player if his star outside back Zac Lomax<\/a> was to leave the club.<\/p>\n

Lomax is said to be disgruntled over the new coach's decision to put him on the wing<\/a> and shift Jack Bird to right centre, with persistent rumours he could be on his way to the Eels, Manly, Roosters or Melbourne next year or sooner. <\/p>\n

Flanagan has been adamant Lomax won't be released this season with the 24-year-old on a $800,000-a-season\ufeff contract<\/a> that runs until the end of 2026.<\/p>\n

2GB's Neil Breen revealed on The Continuous Call Team that Lomax has requested a release six times \ufeffsince the premiership-winning coach arrived at Wollongong. <\/p>\n

Speaking on the same program, Flanagan explained the winger is "happy" despite reports of his dissatisfaction.<\/p>\n

"I think he is playing his best football … at the moment his best position for us is on the wing. He's doing a really good job," Flanagan said.<\/p>\n

"He's happy around the place and if he wasn't happy, he wouldn't be playing like he is at the moment. I'd like to think he'd definitely be there for this year.<\/p>\n

"Down the track we'll see what happens."<\/p>\n

Lomax's unhappiness at the positional switch \ufeffbrought about reports the club would discuss his future after round four.<\/p>\n

Flanagan confirmed talks will commence this week after the Dragons' shock win over Manly on Saturday evening in front of a packed WIN Stadium. <\/p>\n

"We kicked it down the road because we didn't want it to disrupt our season … we'll talk about it this week, but as I said I will be doing the best thing for the club, and the best thing for the club for me is Zac Lomax in the team," he said.<\/p>\n

"He's one of our top three or four players in our salary cap and performance.<\/p>\n

"If I'm going to swap him, I'm going to want something very, very, very good, so I don't think it's going to happen."<\/p>\n

Lomax has started the season with strong form in his new position.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old has scored three tries in four matches, including a double against the Cowboys in their round three loss.<\/p>\n

Lomax also sits equal third in the competition for run metres with 771, behind only Brian To'o and Dylan Edwards, with the latter sitting on top with a whopping 1,013 metres across Penrith's opening four games. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
