D\ufeffavid Fifita<\/a> could hit the NRL<\/a> open market in round 10 due to a "crazy" get-out clause in his contract with the Titans<\/a>, leaving rugby league icon Andrew Johns<\/a> in disbelief.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old signed a new deal last year to remain with the Gold Coast, but has a player option in his favour for the next two years.<\/p>\n

Fifita was an admirer of former coach Justin Holbrook<\/a>, who was axed last season by the Titans and replaced by Des Hasler<\/a> this year, which has seen the side produce two awful displays in losses against the Dragons and Bulldogs.<\/p>\n

With pressure already mounting on Hasler, especially given the major injury blow to Tino Fa'asuamaleaui<\/a>, there are now rumours swirling that Fifita could be headed for the exit as his frustrations grow on the Coast. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Speaking on Wide World Of Sports' <\/em>Immortal Behaviour<\/em><\/a>, Johns was left stunned by the report and believes there could be some concerns internally at the Titans.<\/p>\n

"Is this the first time anything like that has been in someone's contract? I can't believe that … it's a crazy clause," he said.<\/p>\n

"They'd be thinking [about losing him], especially with what's happened to Tino.\u00a0\ufeff<\/p>\n

"At his damaging best, he is worth $1 million a year.\u00a0If you get the best out of David, he is a bit of an enigma, but a guy that big and fast and powerful, I'm trying to think of any player in history who has those tools. <\/p>\n

"We haven't seen it consistently and the big challenge for David."<\/p>\n

Fifita enjoyed a strong 2023 campaign but has been absent early in this season for the Titans due to a pectoral injury\ufeff, but will return for a must-win round four clash with the Dolphins on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

But with uncertainty over his future, Johns believes there will be one club ready to pounce should the Maroons representative trigger his get-out clause.<\/p>\n

"Canberra wanted him a couple of years ago," he said.<\/p>\n
